An Interview With Brandon G

With the release of the "Love Is a Shade of Blue" single, Brandon G manages to pull off a heartfelt and passionate performance and still be able to keep a rock backbone by building a song that hits just hard enough to impact in the right way.

Guitars ring out in this honest and genuine single as pop overtones take over and let you get engulfed by the soundscape and feel of the track itself.

Brandon really gives it his all on this track and that doesn't mean vocals alone that also means the songwriting and the approach itself which combined with the vocals actually makes the track quite cinematic and impactful from start to to end. Although the song does have a great rock sound it is clearly a pop song and it does clearly come from someplace real which in turn makes it quite alluring. But all in all it's his vocals that really pull you in and keep you there. He's got that addictive singing style that makes you want more. That makes you understand that this was something that affected him and that this is how he's able to get things off of his chest. Through song. For some that's the only way they can get things off their chest that's the only way they can express what they felt or are feeling inside and that's what makes great music as a whole really is expression of emotion there's plenty of emotion on this track and there's plenty of emotion Brandon G expresses with most of his songwriting and most of his performances. And just because the song expresses emotion the way it does doesn't mean that it doesn't rock because it does. This is a track that has that radio appeal but still has plenty of heart to go around and I think that's part of why this track is one that stands out. So really the question is did this song come from someplace real. Was this a piece of his life or a chapter from his book? There's clearly only one way to find out. So, with the release of such an authentic single, we decided to do it by reaching out and asking him about this single and what inspired it. While we were at it, we decided to find out what may be coming next for him and how this all got started in the first place. Here's what happened. Buzz Slayers: Let's kick things off with "Love Is A Shade of Blue". This track has a rock undertone and a lot of soul to it. Where did this single come from? Hi everyone! Thank you for listening! This song came out of me wanting to express my love for my husband and telling him how sensitive I can be when it comes to love. The song describes a little piece of my journey from being sad to falling in love with the one and not wanting to let it go. So what better way to express it than to sing, rock and roll. Buzz Slayers: When did this all start for you? When did you fall in love with music really? This started for me back around 2009 when I started taking voice lessons at the Arlington School of Music in Arlington Heights, IL. As I grew from doing recitals to auditions to competitions my love for performing live has grown. My love for music really began when I was younger when my brother and I would reenact scenes from movies and songs and audio record "talk shows" via cassette tapes. I recall a time I was singing a song in my mom's car and she said "sing it Brandon!" and that's when I knew. Buzz Slayers: What inspires you to write a song? I find myself writing songs when serious, or at least what I consider serious, things happen in my life. From love to loss and to joyful moments. My first single 'Bright Light Shine' talks about me proposing to my husband and 'Side By Side' talks about my biggest heartbreak. Most recently I wrote a song about loss as it is about my cat who is now experiencing a timely death. Song and music video will be out soon! Essentially, I write songs that reach people's souls and have a message they can relate to. These were the types of songs I grew up to. Buzz Slayers: This song has some great styles! Can you give us some of your top musical influences? I'm glad you asked because I listen to artists who send a message in a meaningful way. Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Alexander Jean to name a few. I also like Rascal Flatts, Shawn Mendes and Josh Groban. Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music? When I'm not working on writing a song or singing, I'm either working, cleaning, spending time with my husband (pets too) and trying to rest. I work full time as a licensed clinical professional counselor and help those get better emotionally. Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now? If I were to turn on Spotify at this moment Mariah Carey would be playing. Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now? I recently got back from a Coast2Coast Live competition in November. That was a great learning experience and will most likely return in the future. For now, continuing with open mic nights in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Buzz Slayers: This single feels like a big undertaking, is there any advice you'd give to other up and coming artists out there? Thank you for the compliment and I can certainly provide some guidance. I would initially say trust your own creative process when it comes to writing a song and performing it. Not everyone is the same. It is very important to network and find the fit that works for you and others you choose to help you. Do your best to put up new content often and have your music on digital platforms. Show the world what you are doing and what you can do. Post live performances, post live updates and encourage people to listen to your music and come out and watch your show! Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future? 'Bright Light Shine' was the most listened to song in 2022, so I created a music video with my team a few months ago and its release will be announced on Instagram in the near future! I also recorded a new song and music video which is also coming your way! Details to come on Instagram Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music? Thank you for listening and supporting me. Every listen, every share and every like helps to really create our own lane! My music is different and thank you for creating a space where I can be myself and pour out my heart and soul. Thanks for the love!
