A Fresh Interview with GLIMTVIS

ree

A brand new single release from Glimtvis brings out quite a graceful approach with a song that comes through as a bit of a power ballad and boasts a warm country and Americana tonality while touching on something that feels personal with great detail lyrically, so that you can connect with it.

"Hibernate" is a gorgeous single that focuses a bit on certain moments in life. Being with somebody that makes you feel a certain way and knowing that, although there is love there, there is plenty more outside of that moment to deal with in life.

It's about being in that one almost perfect moment and wanting to just stay there, while knowing at the same time that you most certainly can't.

How perfect life might be.

This sentiment is what I picked up on from listening to the song, although others may interpret it differently. Some can look at it just as a love song itself, which it is, in part.

The message came across, for me, quite clearly and I certainly loved how powerful that was for me.

One of the things I dig about this song in particular is how it breathes and feels alive. It starts with a delicate and subtle touch, including violin, piano, and a soothing vocal melody, and this opens into the first verse of the track, which is still very piano-based but also has a sort of synth pad floating in the ether beneath everything, giving it this distance and sort of deepening feel.

The song slowly starts to build, and it gives us such a beautiful aesthetic along the way.

Right from the start, you can feel the semi-cinematic and emotional pull that the song provides.

At the end of that first verse, it actually breaks into full form, still in a bit of a power ballad feel but with electric guitars, slide guitars, more percussion, and everything just becomes bigger.

After that main chorus, it exhales back down to the next verse, and this is what I mean by a song that is breathing.

To me, you can tell there was a lot of thought that went into the arrangement of a song like this, and that's part of why it has such a natural and forward-moving flow to it.

Both vocalists do an amazing job, and when they sing together, they provide such a welcoming harmony that is riddled with personality.

This track has a lot of authenticity behind it. You know it came from someplace real, the energy of it is quite brilliant simply because it puts you in the moment with the song, and it all comes together like puzzle pieces.

It has been quite a long time since I've heard a song that embodies a distinctly Americana tonality, with its warmth, brightness, vibrant vocals, and emotional songwriting and performances, yet still carries a vast undertone.

I think that helps the song really create an atmosphere that you end up falling right into.

Because of how emotional it can be, along with that expansive feeling tone, it makes everything feel very cinematic.

I also really enjoy how they still keep things under the pop umbrella.

You can tell that they're influenced by a lot of different genres of music that they string together to create something that is all their own.

Along with how they're able to set such beautiful moods, those lyrics, again, come from some genuine place, so you end up feeling connected with them as they tell a story. You can paint a picture as the song unfolds and feel like the song was meant for you.

I would absolutely suggest listening to the song with headphones on so you can soak in all of these great layers that the song gives you and see how it affects you, because I'm sure it will. This is the kind of song that makes you think and feel, and we need plenty more of that these days.

A beautifully woven single that certainly leaves an impact and showcases performers that give pieces of themselves in their music, "Hibernate" is a  single you will not forget once you hear it.

After listening to this, I absolutely had to have a sit-down with the band so I could find out more about where this track actually came from and what it meant to the songwriters.

So, while you listen to this track, have a read through of our interview with the band below, and don't forget where you heard all of this first.

Buzz Slayers: Let's talk about "Hibernate"! This song was vast and cinematic track with duet vocals and this warm Americana touch!  Where did this track come from?

The song actually started as a ballad and then evolved into this more uptempo song in the studio. We wanted to make it match oru album The Nashville Confessions, but also have it stand out on it’s own. The feeling we are trying to capture is the feeling of temporary peace – being close, quiet, and present in a hideaway with the one you trust most, free from demands and expectations, while adult life rushes by outside.

It’s about wanting to hold on to intimacy, even when you know it can only last for a moment – a small sanctuary from worries and the life you’re supposed to have under control.

Hibernate is our little breather. It’s about that moment when you just need to close the world out and find peace together with someone you trust. We wrote it as a reminder to ourselves that it’s okay to unplug – even if life outside keeps running at full speed,

Buzz Slayers: I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

It’s so hard for us to answer because we listen to so much different music and get inspired by all kinds of genres. But we have a lot of Nashville friends and songwriters that influence our way of writing – Blue Foley, Dan Smalley and Kensie Coppin to name a few, but we are also inspired by a lot of rock artists like The Picture Books and have a soft spot for Fleetwood Mac and The Civil Wars

Buzz Slayers: Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?

We recorded it at the wonderful and very cozy Hideout Studio in Aalborg in Denmark with our producer and guitarist – and very good friend – Lucas Illanes. And had our awesome live band come to the studio and lay down the tracks.

Buzz Slayers: Do you guys write songs together, or is there one main songwriter that brings ideas back to the other?

We write together , but we always bring different ideas to the table – maybe one of us has some lyrics or a riff and then we put it together and see what works. Sometimes it takes a bit of back and forth to come to an agreement, but mostly we can feel eachothers thoughts and intensions , and then we land in the same place. And sometimes a song starts with one theme or thought and end up in a completely different place.

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as a band? How did you meet?

That’s a really long story, but basically we formed the band after doing a cover show at a very small Pride Festival on a Danish island called Fanø, and a long nightly conversation over rosé. We started a cover duo there and when covid hit we – as many other artists – started writing songs. We had never written together, but found a real common love for the lyrics and the feel of the music. And when we had written a couple of songs we got the urge to play them live…. And now 5 years later we have been playing all over the world (almost) , written an album in Nashville and won an award in Atlanta. It’s kinda cray when you think about it

Buzz Slayers: Are you performing live right now?

Yes we have performed over a 100 shows in Denmark – including some really cool big festivals - and have been so blessed to play shows in UK, USA and Sweden as well. We are currently planning a tour of the UK next spring – and are also going back to the States in a year or so.

We have decided never to say no to anything and that brings us all over the place

Buzz Slayers: Now that this is out, what's next for you?

We are playing a lot of shows and are working on a tour of the UK next spring. And then we hae a single coming out start 2026 as well.

And we are also planning a tour in Denmark with a amazing artist from Ohio called Noah Smith…

And a lot of other things… we never say no to anything

Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?

A lot of different artists, but we just saw a show with 49 Winchester , so they have been in our ears for this weekend. Besides that we listen a lot to people that we love when they release new songs, so for now that is April Cushman, Noah Smith , but also Danish artists like Ninna Andreasen and Farlige Typer

Buzz Slayers: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Lyrically, Hibernate resembles a ballad – but the music carries a strong country-pop drive – like a longing determination that doesn’t just sit around waiting to be rescued like the princess in a fairytale, but instead, with open eyes, seizes the moment despite doubts and possible pain.

We found inspiration for the arrangement listening to Lady A and Fleetwood Mac , but Hibernate has it’s own specific ambiance

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

We would mostly just want to say THANK YOU – thank you for listening and following and showing up for concerts. When you are a DIY band as us, it means the world to have the support of the followers – and we owe the listeners everything. We hope that they can feel the love that we try to put into everything we do and we hope they know how grateful we are every time we hear that they like the music and when they show up for shows.
