Slopcore.ai came to us as a very unique kind of project that manages to generate music in real time and as it moves forward, adapts to your actual taste of music by way of you interacting with the songs themselves.
The project allows you to like certain kinds of tracks that are playing, and the more you like something, the more it will create similar style pieces of music.
The mind-blowing thing about this whole thing is that it is generated in real time, and so whatever you're hearing hasn't been heard ever before.
This, of course, is if I'm understanding it correctly, which I think I am.
The app actually builds songs based on your personal taste and keeps improving as you move along.
While this happens, you get some moving visuals that are sort of flowing and enticing, interacting with your touch on the screen, and the whole thing is pretty outside-the-box but really addicting.
I can't really say I've seen any kind of project like this before, but I found myself continuously flowing through these pieces of music that kept going deeper into a sort of tribal electronic style, always incorporating something a little bit different and a little bit new.
If I skipped past the song without liking it, it's in a little bit of a different direction for the next track it generates.
I definitely found myself getting quite engulfed in some of the soundscapes that came through here, and I found it just refreshing in terms of the idea itself.
I think it's pretty cool to have music generated in real time and have it based on liking something or not.
The visuals are pretty fun to look at, and I definitely was digging into these sorts of semi-cinematic pieces of music that were being created on the spot.
This was something that ended up being a lot more fun than I thought, and I found myself sitting there for quite some time.
I think part of the addictive aspect was the sheer fact that if you like a track, it'll start creating more music in that general direction. So you find yourself kind of going down that rabbit hole as far as you can.
I personally sat there for almost half an hour digging in and liking, and not liking certain tracks to see if it actually did start generating music more to the tastes that I was choosing.
This actually worked, and that's why I kept going down the rabbit hole. I think part of the fun of this is the actual process.
For me, it wasn't really about the music that was generated itself; it was more about how it followed my wants and likes.
So, where did this even come from? Well, it was created by Simon Littauer, who's a pretty well-known electronic musician and doesn't really hold back from experimentation with his music at all.
The idea of AI-generated music following your personal musical preferences and tastes, creating and recreating new pieces that you might like more and more, is pretty brilliant but very experimental.
It feels like a project that was done just for fun. And it is very fun.
I think one of the cool things about it is that you sort of create your own algorithm by way of likes and not likes, but with AI-generated music and sounds instead of just visuals or videos.
It's taking two different ideas and putting them together. AI-generated music, personalization, algorithm, and this sort of never-ending aspect make it all the more intriguing.
After digging around and playing with this app for a while, I decided it would be a great idea to find out where all this came from by speaking with Simon himself.
So, check out Slopcore.ai, and do it on the phone because it's a much more fluent experience.
While you're doing that, check out our interview with Simon Littauer below.
Don't forget where you saw all this first.
How does the listener interact with the music exactly?
You can interact with www.slopcore.ai in the following way:
· If you like what you hear, press the ♡ button.· If you don’t like what you hear or would like to listen to something else, press the button.· If you would like to stop the music, press the ■ button.
The more you engage, the better slopcore.ai will understand your taste and, over time, adapt to your listening profile.
This is focused on both visual art and music, correct?
It is focused on music. The visual side is just a bonus.
Where did this idea come from?
I had this vision of a streaming service from the future while studying live performance of electronic music as a soloist at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen around 2020, before the major breakthrough of large language models and generative AI.
I had been working with modular synthesizers for many years and was deeply engaged in generative music, drawing on a lineage of pioneers such as Xenakis and Eno. Initially, I thought I would have to base the app around a programmed groovebox with randomized parameters and similar techniques. In the end, however, I was able to materialize my original vision through generative AI.
You were a musician and composer even before Slopcore, correct?
Yes, I work professionally as a composer. You can see part of my portfolio at www.playhead.org.
Where can people find your previous releases?
You can find my music on all major streaming platforms.
You can also visit instagram.com/simonlittauer, where I perform my pieces live on modular synthesizers.
My debut album Modular (Katharsis, 2025) is also available on Bandcamp.
When is Slopcore set to be fully launched?
Thursday, February 12, 2026.
What kind of inspirations do you draw on when creating in general?
First and foremost, I love listening to music, so much of my inspiration comes from that. There are certain artists I am deeply inspired by, such as Venetian Snares, Skee Mask, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Richard Devine, and many others.
I also pay close attention to soundtracks when watching films. I enjoy actively listening and trying to understand what is happening in the music, how it was made, and why it works.
How did everything start for you as a composer and musician?
I have been playing music since early childhood, growing up in a very musical family, so music is like a second language for me.
How much of Slopcore is based on AI?
All of the music you hear in the app is streamed directly from an AI server. The music is created in real time and continuously adapts to your taste.
