A Beautiful New Single from Jennifer Allsbrook

ree

If you're not yet too familiar with the sounds of Jennifer Allsbrook, then her latest release is one of the best ways to introduce yourself to her songwriting, warm approach, and composition made up of natural and acoustic instrumentation, along with some great storytelling.

Jennifer is a North Carolina-based songwriter and performer who took some time on this song to look inward a little bit. There's a little hint of who she is as a person coming through in this song, and you can sense the sentiment of how important love is in someone's life from listening to it.

She's certainly not afraid to get a little intimate with her songwriting, and this is something I feel like a lot of other artists should be doing right now. When you listen to a song like this one, you get a little bit of a nostalgic sensation. Well, I do, anyway. The reason for that is that her vocals remind me of Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.

She has this powerful and harmonious singing and tone to her performance, and it's very enrapturing. You get caught up in the actual heart of how she sings and how impactful that can feel, especially when she's doing these thick harmonies.

A lot of the harmonies come up during the chorus, and they work their way there amazingly.

This is a song that isn't really straightforward. It talks a little bit about the struggles of love and relationships, and you can still sense that big hope that is involved.

One of the reasons that you get caught up in this single is because of how it puts you in the moment with the song so easily. It is all acoustic guitar-based, and there's very little percussion, but some is going on that is there just to keep the pace a little bit or add another element to the song to give it a slight drive.

All in all, this is something that she wrote from the heart and gives you an idea for where she's coming from as a person in different situations and aspects of life in general.

"Oh My Soul" is a memorable single release from an artist who's just getting her feet off the ground in terms of releasing her music, which is very surprising when you listen to the song and how beautiful it comes through.

The reason I say this is because, on her Spotify, there's this single and one other called "The Great Divide", which also gets quite personal, and although she can be a little bit more metaphoric on this one, you get exactly where she's coming from once again.

Even though there are only two songs live on her Spotify page, it is easy to tell that she's been writing music for years.

This one has different approaches to vocal harmonies and how she uses her vocals as an instrument, both upfront and in the background.  it also feels a little bit more full-bodied than "Oh My Soul", which has a slightly more stripped-down sort of feel.

Both songs are wonderfully intense at certain points, and she really does know how to build to those big choruses perfectly.

This is something that makes me think of not just folk, but Celtic folk as well, in a way. The way the guitars are layered brings high and low notes along with chords, and all these great vocal parts coming in and out make everything almost colorful.

I would start with "Oh My Soul" and then move into 'The Great Divide" from there, but I strongly suggest listening to them both.

These are songs that give you some insight as to who Jennifer is as a person and how she's able to tell a story from her perspective in such great detail that you could feel it in your bones.

This is for anyone who loves classic, singer-songwriter, and folk music with hints of that Celtic undertone.

These are both easy songs to get swept away with.

Take a listen to both of these songs as soon as you can and remember where you heard them first.
