THE VELVET SUPERSLOTHS - BIO (as told by Slothy, the band's official mascot) The Velvet SuperSloths recruited me back in 2018, when I was still just a baby sloth. The band had already been around since 2014, released four singles in 2017, and was starting work on their first full-length album. I was already hooked on their wild, party-style rock shows, so when they asked me to become their official mascot, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I jumped at the chance to join the madness on stage. When I arrived, the band was working on the album while expanding their already impressive lineup of merch. On top of albums, t-shirts, soaps, stickers, patches, and earrings, the Velvets were brewing up magic potions in the form of smoky, spicy products under the VSS&CO label. Their Hot Sloth hot sauce won 2nd place in Québec at Brasiervil 2023, and even has its own jingle — Hot Sloth Boogie— written and recorded by the band. Their second sauce, Higher Fire, inspired by the song of the same name, made it into the 2025 season lineup of Hot Ones Québec, hosted by Marc-André Grondin. With their self-titled album released in 2021 — packed with unforgettable hooks — the band’s live show quickly turned into a wild, organized chaos. It’s festive, sweaty, and unifying, earning them the reputation of being a breath of fresh air in the often too-long underground metal lineups. My mascot role has evolved over the years. I’ve eaten so much hot sauce that I now transform into Slothzilla, a friendly monster who makes a few fiery appearances on stage. I love working with a band that comes up with crazy ideas — like the Velvet Superbus (filling a bus with fans from Sherbrooke and driving them to a show in Drummondville), or treasure hunts where people search for plush toys of me hidden in tour cities. I’ve had the privilege of being front-row when the band wrote their latest singles — Cold Hearted, Echoes of Redemption, Between Lines & Lights, and Set the World on Fire — released in 2024 and 2025. And trust me... the next ones are going to be absolutely massive. At this point, I pretty much feel like the band’s sixth member — their fuzzy little muse.
