A man who spent most of his life on the fringes and behind the curtains of the music industry, Chris Arthur introduces himself with his debut album, Underneath The Scar, arriving August 6. Not the record he wanted to make, but the one he had to after experiencing the kind of heartbreak he tried avoiding for a large portion of his life. A singer-songwriter originally from Buffalo, NY and now based in Southern California, Arthur describes the album’s creation simply: “The songs started pouring out like I was bailing water out of me so I wouldn’t drown.” Songwriting became Arthur’s way of trying to make sense of each stage of his heartbreak, ultimately using it to dig himself out from under the rubble. When the dust settled, he realized he had a collection of ten songs. Rather than rearrange them, he chose to mostly preserve the chronological order in which they were written. The result is an emotional timeline that allows listeners to experience the story exactly as he lived it. With each song, you can hear and feel Arthur finding his footing again as heartbreak gives way to self-reflection, resilience, and hope.
