Kate Neckel is a New York artist and musician. A painter first, she started making music the same way she paints-staying open, keeping the signal direct, brush swapped for a microphone. She writes, plays, produces, and records everything herself, in single takes from her apartment studio, and makes all her own cover art. It's one practice, not something she goes somewhere else to do. Eight singles so far on her own label, Bird Star Three. The sound is intimate and atmospheric, spare and vocal-forward.
