New single from The Scarlet Goodbye encapsulates this incredibly classic rock approach from instrumentation, performance, and overtone, all the way down to the lyrics, being about a woman you kind of can't resist, even though you know you should.
This is a very classic single. The way it's performed is kind of vintage, the songwriting feels like it's from the late '60s to early '70s, and they can really nail the aesthetic perfectly.
The guitars are really well-toned. They have this crossover sound that still feels sort of vintage, but also reaches into a bit of energy or a harder sound at times, but never over the top. They always keep in mind the feel of the song. This is a track meant to be something that was released decades ago, and it's amazing how they were able to grab hold of that soundscape and perform it well.
The guitars have a great hook to them all throughout the song, along with the whole thing just having amazing energy. The energy level of this track is one of the main things that helps it push through perfectly.
I really do like the guitar work here, but it's really the arrangement of the song that does it so much justice.
Before we get into that, I have to take note of how the vocals are approached. The vocals also take that '70s aesthetic and bring it back to life with these sorts of smooth vocal harmonies throughout the full track, helping it really lock in at an old school approach.
So, it comes right in with clean guitars doing a semi-beachy classic rock riff, doubled up with one guitar doing something slightly different than the other. The way they sound together overlapped is outstanding.
The vocals come in pretty high energy and robust. They are sort of in your face, a bit belting out, and I like that.
Throughout this first verse, the drums are sort of tapping along before going into full swing.
Before long, it goes into this great pre-chorus section and then to the chorus of the song, which is really big and fun. This is where the drums come in Full Throttle, and the whole thing has a great gusto.
During that chorus, you have a tambourine jangling long, adding a bit more drive to it but also making it even more catchy.
This is actually a very danceable song. They put a lot of layers into this. There are a lot of textures that sort of come together and create that classic rock sound, with everything very closely paid attention to.
The track is called "She's A Fire", and lyrically, they paint a great picture. One that is again, pretty common or relatable. And it's about that woman. The one that you just can't keep away from. You know she may be trouble, but you're going in anyway. I definitely love this aspect and how they did it in such a light-hearted way.
That is a big element of why the song works as well. It has this sort of air of light-heartedness that makes it more welcoming.
The groove is there; that vintage soundscape works perfectly, it's not really psychedelic rock, but it borders on it at times, and most of all, you really feel that '70s rock totality.
Songs like this give me bouts of nostalgia. I really enjoyed the heck out of it just because it made me feel a bit young again.
You can tell these guys have been rocking for a long time, and they definitely have the chops to show it. There's also a great set of releases under their belt, including a massive record released just last year, and it's all well worth listening to.
You can also hear that they draw from many different influences, and they are probably awesome in a live performance setting. You can just feel the energy on record that way. If they can put that kind of energy on record, then seeing them, I must be great.
The guys are going on tour starting this month, and we are going to list those tour dates for you in case you're in those areas and want to check them out, but in the meantime, definitely have a good listen to the track and remember where you heard it first.
