Overhaul Drops A Grungry, Pop riddled Record

ree

A blistering new release from Overhaul brings together some heavy-handed elements of grunge, garage rock, and hits of alternative to create something pretty hard, as it comes at you with a massive sonic drive, and the guitar tones throughout this record are a huge aspect of why the record has such great appeal.

The Time Flies By album is pretty big, and it doesn't waste a lot of time coming at you with that sonic overdrive right from its first track, "I Don't Think You Know Me".

This song works great as a door opener for the album. You're going to get some of the aesthetic and feel that you can expect from the rest of the record but still, listening to this full album is the best way to go.

There are more than a few surprises around the corners, and you just can't get enough of that wall of sound the band delivers.

This is because, even on this first single, you're getting this massive melodic overhaul as well. It is grungy, but you're getting tons of melodic approaches, progressions, and vocals.

The song also showcases the album's ability to feel like it was all recorded live. There's something that puts you right there in the moment with these tracks and makes you feel almost like you're watching a live performance, in a sense.

It feels like everyone was feeding off of each other's energies right there in the moment and that's why the songs come through with such a Powerhouse Rock appeal.

One of my favorite tracks on the record, "Happy Little Rocker", is an absolute banger and showcases some of the more radio-friendly pop-rock approaches while still giving this sort of vast and impactful heavy-rock soundscape.

The vocals throughout this record are pretty robust, and they definitely hit with some great hooks when they want to, and you also get this sort of megaphone effect on them a lot of the time, which has a particular way of adding depth to the songs and also of building on that whole live performance aesthetic as well.

The title track of the record, "Time Flies By" portrays some more pop punk influence, which is something that you could feel from other tracks on the record but here, it is right in your face and it works really well because they managed to pull it together in an alternative rock feel but you can still hear a lot of the punk influence in the songwriting and performance.

There's also a synth string melody that goes through the background of the track, adding another layer of tone to everything, which I enjoyed.

The whole record does have a lot of layers and depth to it. Different textures pop in here and there, and they get slightly experimental while still keeping this whole pop sensibility while they do it.

That's an important thing to bring up, actually. The record does have a great pop overtone. The songs are heavy, grungy, garage-rock sounding, and can have a lot of that punchy overdrive, but there's a lot of pop flowing through the veins of this record.

Songs come through bright, even when they're heavy. Tracks are very catchy at times, and some of the choruses stick in your head for hours or even days after the songs have ended.

"I Try" is an example of a song from the record that really gives off more of a raw feel. This has a sort of gritty, raw energy and sound to it, and that has a strange way of building that impactful punch.

As I said before, there are a lot of surprises throughout this album.

This is the kind of band you listen to on record and immediately know you want to go see them perform live.

They managed to capture this great energy and aesthetic on the recording so well that you just simply know seeing them perform it live would be awesome.

You don't get that often, so when you come across it it's pretty refreshing.

So, take a deep dive into this album now because it definitely satisfies that need for heavy-handed rock, grunge, and garage with those punk and pop elements peppered in all over it.

Also, this is not a record meant to be heard at low volumes. It's meant to be nice and loud. So, do yourself a favor and check this out.

Don't forget where you heard it first.
