Everything But The Everything Evolves Into A Full Band With A Vast New Rock Single

A new single from Everything But The Everything delves into an emotional sentiment that comes through with a lot of intensity, at times. The song blends together elements of progressive, psychedelic, Indie, and classic rock, all rolled into one big piece of work that feels expansive, vast in its undertone, and hits with this particular energy that wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants to.

"Hollow Heart" is unique in the way that it's sort of elegant. The whole thing feels semi-theatrical, almost as if it were a part of a rock opera of sorts.

It's hard work is brilliant on this track. The guitars are expansive and flowing, layered with melodies sitting on top of each other, clicking together like puzzle pieces.

There is a natural and forward-moving flow throughout this entire thing and it feels amazing when you listen to it with headphones on.

This is like an ocean of textures and tones that come through, scattered and melted into something that creates its own atmosphere. Once you're in that atmosphere, you don't want to leave.

I feel like the theatrical aspect of it comes from the vocal performances. There are both male and female vocals throughout this track, and both sets are as intense as the other.

The cool thing about it is that they both have the same kind of vibrato to their singing. So it all fits together when they're doing harmonies, which tend to be the most intense sections of the song.

This is definitely leaning into an alternative rock feel. Again, the emotional backbone is always there, letting the song sort of cry out.

The percussion is a key element in how this all fits together as well. The drumming is wonderfully done and helps the song really build up into those more climactic moments.

He also adds a lot of drive behind the song itself, although again, it's very sort of slow-moving and cinematic.

I do think the cinematic or filmic aspect also comes from that emotional push, but that's something that I love about the song. It doesn't really hold anything back. This is a song built with fewer walls around it than whatever you may be used to.

The lyrics dig deep into what feels like heartbreak.

There is an overlaying darkness or sullenness that coats the track, and it works amazingly with that spacious feel it gives off as well.

There are a lot of reverb effects on the track itself. Each instrument, including the vocals, have that reverb dripping off of them.

All of this gives it the feel or aesthetic of a cross between post-punk and shoegaze. But, this sort of has its own thing too.

One of the things I love most about it is how it does actually blend together genres in a seamless way.

It helps create layers and again, when you listen with headphones on all those layers come at you but all in all, this is a song that swallows you up. It feels like you can swim through it.

It drifts and invites you to drift alongside it.

Some really cool and surprising guitar sections here, the bass guitar has a beautiful low end to it and helps that soundscape flow the way it does, and the whole thing is almost dreaming.

This is a song that feels like an intense, waking dream of sorts.

There's this bridge style section towards the end of the track that gets super heavy and those guitars and drumming, bass guitar and everything else involved, really go full swing.

This is where the song explodes and hits its most climactic moment.

The vocals are absolutely gorgeous, two-part, but feel lush, giving the song this additional texture and full-bodied sound.

The way they are performed is graceful. Again, they sort of cry out, and you can feel that element of authenticity coming through in the performances.

So, if you're not familiar with Everything But The Everything as of yet, then this is a brilliant song to introduce yourself with; however, I must mention that this is one of the first tracks as a full band project.

The whole thing was started by Izzy The Gent, who performs bass guitar on this one, and usually collaborates with different musicians to release music. Writes the songs as well and has been writing the music for this project for a long time.

The formation of a full band for this track is a bit new for the project, and I feel like it works amazingly because everyone is completely on the same page.

This is a song that you will get engulfed in; I mean that in the best way possible.

If you love big, theatrical, flowing, spacious indie rock, then this track is 100% for you.

Upon listening to it, I wanted to speak with Izzy to find out how it all came to be, and what might be coming up next for the project now.

So, while you listen to this track, have a read-through of our interview below.

Remember where you heard it first.

Hey and welcome! Thanks so much for taking some time with us!

So, this whole project started with just one person (Izzy) and most previous tracks were collaborations, is that correct?

Izzy: That is correct. The project was always a collaboration idea. So, I made some phone calls to fellow musicians about helping me with my debut EP since I could only play bass. In my mind I would be a producer of sorts and shape the music.  When time to record came around, a majority of those individuals stopped responding. I don't blame them. That first EP was rough but because of the lack of help, I was forced to learn how to play other instruments. When the music got better, my phone began to ring.  Two people who did respond from the debut Dream EP, were Tobias Hawkins and Sophia Prise. I love that we are all here together, still making music.

What has changed now? Why the full band finally?

Izzy: I was very happy just doing digital releases but as the songs started to stack up, the idea to play a show began to gain steam. Once we got a band together, I could see that this was the way moving forward.

Are you still the main songwriter on this one?

Izzy: Currently, the songs begin with me. I map out a  complete song with my bass, then send the demo to our guitarists Andy Lund and Ian Dowed before it's shipped off to everyone else. While I am not the main songwriter on this single or other recent material, the band allows me to direct the direction of our sound.

Now that this single is out, will there be more coming?

Izzy: Yes, yes, yes!!! We actually have a stack of songs, fully completed, in queue awaiting their release.

Are you guys performing live now?

Izzy: Thank goodness we are. We are actively trying to play more live shows. I work a lot, and would love to win the lottery asap so I can focus more on music and less on my mortgage payments.

What would you say your biggest musical influences are?

Izzy: My influences seem to change every couple of years. Five years ago, I would have said Cut Copy but lately there's been a lot of Bee Gee's and Tom Petty playing through my speakers.

As you've been doing this for quite some time, what sort of advice would you give to up and coming bands out there?

Izzy: Do what feels right for you right now. If great shows keep coming your way, play them. If you feel like you've tapped into a writing reservoir filled with gold, mine it. Ride the hot hand.

What's the next move for you now?

Izzy: Keep recording and keep playing shows.

What sort of things inspire you to write?

Izzy: The melodies come out of nowhere. I've learned to not force it. If I made a window to write and it's not happening, then rehearse old material or play scales to stay sharp. On the flip side, if I pick up my bass and the ideas are flowing, I might have to cancel whatever plans I had that evening.

What would you say people can expect from this release?

Izzy: This release shows the band is fearless and will continue to do whatever the hell it wants. People should expect us to continue making up our own rules.

Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

Izzy: I am always grateful. Thank you to anyone who gives us a spin. There's a lot of great music out there.
