A fresh new single release from Gabriel Jacobsen comes through with a unique breed of honesty that I feel like a lot of people will automatically connect with as soon as they pick up on the sentiment behind it all.
This is a very warm single both in its lyrical content and it's tone. It's filled with Lush guitars that are welcoming, and the vocals have this air of rustic, roots folk, but also certain classic rock approaches, and I really love that combination because it works perfectly for this particular single.
Gabriel built a wonderful aesthetic on this track and it is very spirited in the sense that it takes you for a bit of a journey that feels introspective.
I am a huge fan of songs and music that can sort of let you look in from the outside. It's not easy to look in on yourself but sometimes, it can Enlighten you, in a sense.
The song is called "Never More Believing", and what I picked up from this was that it's about believing in yourself. It takes you through inner struggle and how others may have viewed you in the past, but comes to the realization that the way you view yourself is all that really matters.
It's not feeling like you're enough, whether that may be for yourself or someone else. And brings that full circle into understanding that you most certainly are enough.
This track has heart. It feels like it comes from a very real place, and everything is authentic.
The way Gabriel articulates lyrics is beautiful simply because he's so open about it. A lot of inner thought comes spilling out for all too,
Perhaps this was a song that was even a little bit cathartic for him to write and release.
Either way, it speaks volumes to certain listeners. I ended up relating to this track almost immediately, and I feel like a lot of others will as well.
Sometimes we need something to remind us that even though things can be difficult and you're worried about how others may perceive you, you're doing your best. Everything's going to be okay, and you should be proud and grateful for the things that you've accomplished and who you are as a person.
This is such an important sentiment to portray and song, and Gabriel does it flawlessly.
This is because it's not one-sided. He takes you through the downs and ups of it all.
At times it feels like the song was written for you, even though you know it wasn't.
I wonder if Gabriel understands that the song can actually speak to people the way it does and, at times, maybe even let someone feel like they're not alone in whatever they're feeling.
The track has a great drive to it; it reaches into an indie pop kind of realm but has an old soul attached to it.
There are a few guitars on this track, and one of them is really used almost as a rhythm. I love this because that also helps drive the song forward in a unique fashion, and there are all kinds of great production elements to it that let the song feel almost cinematic.
Aside from that, other aspects of that cinematic or filmic attribute come from the emotion behind it all.
The song has a strong emotional backbone, and it's used to express what needs to be expressed. This is what I feel like true art is all about.
It's got that spirited, uplifted feeling behind it that lets you almost breathe a sigh of relief.
You feel good when you listen to it, and we all need more music like this these days.
We need more music that is unbound. Gabriel wrote a song that has fewer walls built around it than whatever you may be used to.
The fact that you can listen to this song and connect with it in that way is outstanding because even if you're not going through it right at this very moment, you can look back on certain chapters of your life, and this song could serve as a major part of the soundtrack from those chapters.
He's singing about something that a lot of us think about but don't really know how to articulate into words, let alone words in music.
This is why it's so connected.
As the song unfolds, it gets even more full-bodied; more layers of instrumentation come in, backing vocals flow through the ether of the song giving it more depth, and everything comes in full swing.
By the end, it's a sort of hands-in-the-air sing-along, a single that is incredibly infectious.
I mean that in the best way possible, of course.
Upon listening to this wonderful song, I wanted to have a sit down with Gabriel to find out where this actually came from and what inspired it.
So, while you listen to it, have a read-through of our interview with Gabriel Jacobsen below.
Don't forget where you heard it first.
Hey and thanks for taking some time with us! Let;s jump into "Never More Believing"!
Where did this track come from and what was it about?
It was one of those who was written within 45min. I was touring guitar tech with a band and on an early load in I was checking one of the guitars and suddenly the chords, melody and vers lyrics was done on my phones memo.
I am hearing several approaches on this one! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I’ve always been a big fan of Springsteen - the sound, the band approach, the lyrics. So my first album had a lot of old rock pop in it. That became my beginning into my own music. But on this one I took a new approach to find my own sound in between Bruce, Sheeran (huge fan) and my love for making music as a canvas like José Gonzáles. At the same time I’ve been growing up with Simon & Garfunkel and there solo careers. So the music that influence me is a big punch of broad pop and rock. As a kid I was totally blown away with Elvis too. My dad had a hole bunch of his singles 45” records. I’m very broad and could mention 20/30 artist easy, that I’ve been listening to!
Did you work with a producer on this song or was this all you?
This one was all me. I’ve had the demo down for a couple of years and the tracks took there form about a year ago. I’ve worked a lot on the sound, cause I wanted to find my own and my own way on this. So no producer, only me and a couple of musiciansfrom my band. I liked that approach. pproa
The song has a cinematic feel to it along with that pop brightness! Are you inspired by film at all?
I’m more inspired by images - I see songs, chords and build up like images, which is kind a like watching film, movies tv shows. Inline the way a specific sound can build a specific emotion without words.
Did you record this at a big studio, or a home DAW?
This is totally home studio. I have s small basement room which have been converted to my studio. And I’ve been building and buying gear for a long time.
Are you performing live at all?
This year I’m actually not. The family has taken up the time, with a 7month little boy and a 3 year old girl. Those two are having my time this year and I’m hoping for some touring in 2027. I’m still a touring tech with danish artists, that’s my day job.
Now that this is out there, what's coming up next?
Next up is next single. I’m ready too lay down some vocals and actually very exiting to throw out some more music into the world.
What would you say people can expect from this single?
A song that can take you away from the place of not feeling good enough for anyone or your self. A song that takes you on the journey to being who you are, as you are.
What are you performing on this, aside from singing?
I’m actually playing the synth bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, other synth keys, some percussion and I made the drum tracks.
What kind of advice would you have for other artists trying to get heard out there?
Get your songs out and push them as much as you can on social media - it’s there you can find the people who wants to listen.
Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?
Thanks for listening - it means more than you could ever possible imaging. Remember to like and share the song so it can find its way to even more people who maybe never more believes and therefore got to start believing!
