An inspirational and uplifting new single from Maddox Jones delivers such a warm tone and a sort of classic rock drive, along with layers of guitar work and a bit of a spacious undertone, letting things come through with a slightly filmic feel, and it's all wrapped up in this hands-in-the-air, glorified sentiment that feels really good to listen to.
This is a very spirited single and it hints at the kind of artists that I grew up listening to like Bruce Springsteen.
Its approach has this boisterous feel, and the song is very lush, full bodied, and a bit powerful.
One of the things I really dig about this track is the guitar tones. The guitars come through with this great tonality that complements the songwriting in a unique way. The guitars have this inviting feel to them, and the riffs are outstanding because they're colorful.
This song does blend little elements of edginess with a whole lot of that color. It's bright and something that you definitely want to end up singing along with.
The track is built with not just guitars, but those keys that add more hooks and more layers of texture to the entire thing.
The vocal approach that Maddox portrays is really addictive. It's robust. It has hints of rustic undertone but really lets him belt out with such a sort of powerhouse style approach. It feels like homeland rock on another level.
So, the track is called "This Time We'll Be Winning", and it's based around football, and how sports like it give us all the sense of being on the same side. We live in a very split society these days. Things can feel a bit divided at times, so it feels great to have sports there so that we can unite as one and root for our home team.
I absolutely love this sentiment because not only does it speak volumes for the artist and how he lets us recognize and remember that we have these things in life to unite us, but it also works for all different aspects of life.
For me, this is a straight up inspirational song about life itself and how you can find the power to rise above struggles and stresses. There are things to look forward to and people who love you, and this should give you strength.
So, it really depends on who's listening. I love hearing a song where people can interpret it a little bit differently.
Obviously, you get that sense of empowerment from it, the feel good brightness, the warmth, and that sense of being united, having a common ground, and a bit of an escape when it comes to watching the sports game and not really caring about anything else at the moment.
I think we all need those kinds of escapes and we all need that sense of kinship.
This single absolutely embodies the concept of sending a great message but also bringing together elements of classic rock with a much more current feel at the same time.
The way he puts those two elements together is borderline brilliant and I absolutely love how you can feel the song in your bones.
It's got this electric energy that is completely unstoppable and unbelievably infectious. It doesn't let up all the way through to the end, as a matter of fact, it gets even more intense and that energy rises up towards the end.
The track comes with a music video that showcases Maddox on the playing field and sort of reigniting the fact that this is a bit of a World Cup anthem for this year.
I definitely feel like he nailed that sentiment and the aesthetic of delivering a powerful sports anthem that rocks well, but lets you feel like you're a part of it all at the same time.
So, come share in the inspiration and take a listen to this track as soon as you can.
Upon listening to it myself, I realized I wanted to have a sit-down with Maddox to get a little bit more in depth about where it came from and how it was put together, along with what might be coming up next.

Remember where you heard it first.
Thanks so much for taking the time! Let’s jump right into “This Time We’ll Be Winning”! This felt uplifting and real! Inspired by some classic rock and an almost 80’s undertone! Where did this track come from and what was it about?
Thank you! I wrote “This Time We’ll Be Winning” because I wanted to capture that unique feeling football gives us every tournament, the hope, optimism and belief that maybe this could finally be our year. It’s really a song about hope more than football. It’s about believing that better days are ahead, whether you’re talking about football or life itself.
I am hearing a few different styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I’ve always loved artists who write big, emotional songs that people can sing together. Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Coldplay, The Killers and Sam Fender have all been huge influences. I also grew up listening to a lot of 80s music, so that uplifting, anthemic sound naturally finds its way into my songs.
Are you performing live right now?
Yes! I’ve been touring across europe this year and love playing these songs live. There’s nothing better than seeing people connect with them in the room, especially when they start singing along. On August 30th I play roseshire festival in Northampton.
How did your journey as an artist begin?
I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember. Music became my way of making sense of the world. I’ve had some incredible highs and some difficult setbacks along the way, but those experiences have shaped who I am as a songwriter. I think resilience has become a big part of my story.
Did you work with a producer on this song, or was this all you?
The song was produced by David Crawford at Plastic Tree Studios. We wanted it to feel uplifting, cinematic and timeless. Something that could soundtrack a football tournament, but also stand on its own as a song about hope.
What’s next for you? Working on more new releases?
Absolutely. I’m always writing, and there are plenty of new songs on the way. Right now I’m enjoying seeing where this single takes me, but there’s lots more music to come.
What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming bands or artists trying to get heard?
Focus on building genuine relationships rather than chasing numbers. Keep writing, keep improving and don’t wait for permission. Social media changes all the time, but great songs and consistency never go out of fashion.
What would you say people can expect to hear on this single?
An uplifting, feel-good anthem that celebrates hope, togetherness and believing that better days are ahead. Whether you’re a football fan or not, I hope it leaves people feeling a little more optimistic than when it started.
Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?
Just a huge thank you. Every stream, ticket, message and share genuinely means the world to independent artists like me. I hope this song reminds people to hold on to hope and keep believing, because sometimes that’s exactly what we all need.
