Debrider Releases a Vast and Haunting EP

A new EP release from Debrider brings out a very unique and honest approach in the form of a vast shoegaze tonality that brings cinematic underbelly and this emotional drive that lets character and personality come through and this ends up being what you get attached to the most.

The Dull Blades release features two tracks and each of them shows a little bit of a different side to their format and style of songwriting along with their ability to bend genres and take textures and tones and layer them so they can create this sort of forward-flowing atmosphere.

These songs feature expansive synth pads that add so much to the songs and let you sort of float alongside them. These are the types of things that add that dreaminess and vastness to the soundscape of what the songs give off.

There's also a clean guitar that hints at a little bit of a rock undertone but the whole thing has a bit of darkness and edginess to it to the point where it's slightly haunting in a way but that also adds to that cinematic vibe and aesthetic that I mentioned earlier.

It's amazing to me how all the textures flow together so well between the guitars, the drumbeats and the vocals.

Each element of these songs complements the other and each one adds a layer of that texture and depth to the songs.

One of the things that I have to talk about with this record is the mix. I understand that not a lot of reviewers talk about the mix of a song but here I feel like it's very important.

This release has a very specific aesthetic to it. It is meant to haunt. It is meant for you to think and feel. It is meant for you to get wrapped up in the sound and then eventually washed away with it as well.

None of this can happen without the proper mix. Absolutely 100% Perfection.

The drums have a deepening reverb effect on them giving the song so much of a distanced feeling and that adds to that hint of darkness.

The synth pads that float through the ether of these songs add that bigger more robust atmosphere but also serve as the fog that's floating through an empty street in the middle of the night.

That's the kind of thing a good mix can do. It can make you feel like you're somewhere else. It can help you get pulled into these songs the way it was intended.

The vocals are almost like instruments themselves and come through soft and drifting along with the rest of the song and that's the whole point. Is meant for you to drift along with them.

For me, I feel like these were so emotional and that they came from someplace absolutely real and that those emotions help them build their soundscape because it's not something that just lyrically speaks but it musically speaks the same.

It's like listening to a classical piece in a way. And there are no words, but you get the emotion that they're giving off.

That to me is a beautiful and very connective attribute to these songs and Debrider has done an outstanding job of being able to portray that musically.

This release was graceful, genuine, edging between a dream and a nightmare, and had something very real attached to it.

This EP let me escape into it. And I was able to feel everything it was meant to give. I love that and it's something that I rarely get so having it here was refreshing.

Listen to this release with headphones on because it is the best way to soak in everything that's going on throughout these songs.

Remember where you heard it first.
