Chavar Dontae Drops an Addictive and Diverse EP

A brand new EP release from Chavar Dontae brings out an absolutely wonderful and lush crossover type of sound that takes elements of pop rock, indie rock, Indie pop, and even this sort of cinematic backbone, and brings them all together to build an atmosphere that you just don't want to step out of once you're there.

One of the things I absolutely adored about the Too Much EP is the honesty. A lot of these songs feel like they serve as chapters in the artist's life, and that makes everything all the more authentic because when you listen carefully to the lyrics, a lot of these songs will have a way of connecting with you.

Tracks like "I'll Be Fine" are a perfect example. The song goes through a lot of inner thoughts that just come spilling out for everyone to soak in, and it's kind of a beautiful thing because of how relatable it can be and how vulnerable it lets him become.

I think it takes a bit of guts to release songs like that, but I also feel like this is what real artistry is about.

Being able to speak your mind with no walls built around you is an important aspect of creating anything, and Chavar has really accomplished that not just with this track, but with the whole EP release.

There are a number of tracks that stand on their own two feet as singles incredibly well, but one of the most impactful and unique songs on the record is called "Rain".

This is a song that leaves a mark, and he takes this indie rock sort of approach to it, but there's a lot of soul involved. Now, I should also mention that the soul in the vocal performance is a pretty normal thing for Chavar.

There are different levels of intensity and approaches here, but it all comes through with this genuine backbone. You can tell that this must have been super fun to record, and there was plenty of attention to detail during the creation of these songs, but it has heart, and I think that's what lets these songs really stand tall.

This is a record that boasts a lot of personality and character. These are elements that I feel like have been missing from certain kinds of genres of music as of late. It was such a refresher to hear this record and hear how much personality just comes oozing out of every song.

As I mentioned before, these are almost like chapters in his life, and the songs are connected in a sense, so although this may not be an actual concept record, at times, it feels like it is.

This isn't a record that you want to listen to from start to finish. You don't just listen to one or two tracks because, although you might get a gist of what you may expect on the rest of the EP, it will not give you anywhere near the full spectrum of what the record has to offer as a whole.

Some releases are meant to be heard in full, and this is certainly one of them.

Aside from that, there are some surprises around its corners as well.

Songs like "All White M1" take a different turn and end up feeling like a crossover of R&B and pop, coming through very radio-friendly but in a totally different aesthetic than the rest of the record.

I love surprises like that because it lets you start to expect the unexpected and keeps you on your toes.

The closing track also has its own vibe to it. This song is called "The Remedy", which features Mike Moonnight.

The song comes through with a super danceable rhythm that feels almost afrobeat-inspired inspired and the vocals come through with more of a whispery approach.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, it all has a great pop coating to it, but the main thing is that the character is so approachable, so addictive, and so robust that you can't turn away from it.

I love a record that's got this level of diversity to it and it wasn't what I was expecting after hearing the first couple of tracks but it was a pleasant surprise indeed.

EP that speaks volumes for an artist, and it definitely showcases Chavar's ability to create songs that have their own aesthetics, come atmospheres, bring out honesty and authenticity, songs you can dance to, songs you can rock with, and songs that just have layers of meaning to them.

I would definitely take a deep dive into this EP as soon as you can, and again, I suggest listening to the full record because that's how it was meant to be heard.

Check this out now and remember where you heard it first.
