Bow & Spear Give Us A Taste of What's Coming

A new single release from Bow & Spear just dropped and with it comes a massive and vast undertone in the vein of a heavy grunge with the aftertaste of shoegaze dripping from it and it's done with a lot of attention to detail in terms of the tones that are coming at you so that the soundscape that hits is heavy and edgy, but melodically driving and creates this particular atmosphere that gives you little bouts of nostalgia at times, and packs a huge punch in all the right places.

"Big Down" is a track that doesn't hold much back in the way of creating an incredible sonic drive, and again, those guitar tones are very well thought out because they're widespread and have such amazing performances throughout this entire track.

The guitars have a particular way of wailing and bending, which is really unique and also adds to those hints of shoegaze, along with reverb effect coming from some of the instruments, of course.

The guitar work on this track is beautifully done. You have a rhythm guitar that adds that thickness and gives you a chord progression, while the additional guitar gives you these beautiful sort of layers of graceful notes that float to The Ether of the song, giving it that spacious and ambient tonality that you'd expect from anything you would consider shoegaze.

They do things nice and loud, and I like that. Everything in terms of the distortion and the tones is pushed to the maximum, which is something that lets it come through with that edge I mentioned earlier.

One of the main reasons this song works so damn well is the drumming. The drumming is absolutely perfect. It is not just in the pocket, really, but more alive, and the rest of the band sort of feeds off of that in a way.

The drummer does a great job of pushing things forward and also giving them the additional flow that they need. They also help bring those climatic areas of intensity the right effect.

To an extent, it almost feels like these guys recorded the entire thing live on the floor. It's as if everyone involved was feeding off of each other's energy the entire time, and that is why you get this live performance air.

You're able to sort of feed off that yourself because the energy is totally infectious.

You can definitely hear a slew of influences coming through in terms of classic grunge and heavy rock, along with the shoegaze, of course.

Some of my favorite attributes of this track are when those guitars do these great little bending notes, which sort of changes the aesthetic of the song when they happen.

In a sense, it kind of keeps you on your toes. By the time you get halfway through the track, you start to expect more of that, and when they come, it's incredibly satisfying.

I'm also totally digging how the vocals add to the flow of things. They're almost like an instrument themselves, but they give a different texture to the track as a whole.

I definitely loved how the approach was done and how the heavy and melodic come together so damn well here.

It's rare you here attract that boasts this much sort of color in a way, but also such a great heavy-handed edginess as well.

Now, as far as we can tell, this is one of the latest singles off of an upcoming album set to be released a little bit later this summer, and if we get more of this, then I'm sold.

Again, these guys bring out certain kinds of influences, and a lot of this kind of stuff I grew up listening to, so it did indeed give me a little nostalgic feels from time to time, so I'm sure the full album will have lots of this stuff.

This is a track that's easy to get engulfed by. I mean the best way possible, of course.

If they're able to pull off this kind of energy and aesthetic on records this well with a single track, then I can't wait to hear what else the record has to offer.

I'm sure it'll be the kind of record you listen to in full from start to finish.

For now, this track is certainly going to keep me at bay, and I suggest that you check this out as soon as you can.

When you do, I'll listen to it loud or with headphones on, allowing you to soak in all those layers.

Dive into this one and remember where you heard it first.
