An Interview with Avishek Choudhury

A new release from Avishek Choudhury comes through as a spirited rock single that has a very anthemic undertone to it and with that you get some great and sort of heavy messaging behind it all, as the song focuses a lot about fighting through struggles, whether it's outbound or inner, and how people find a way to get past some of the things that feel like are holding them back or bringing them down in life.

Today's world could be a little bit stressful. It's a bit crazy out there, and a lot of artists aren't holding back in terms of speaking out and writing songs about it.

This is definitely one of them as it feels very much like the world is filled with certain kinds of hate or aggression, pressure, or the forced feeling like you have to pick sides.

"Always A Fighter" is about rising up against all of those notions. Not letting certain levels of hate or aggression get to you, thriving past it, and fighting through it.

At least, that's how I interpreted the song; others may take it a little differently, as again, it does have a very spirited soundscape to it.

The song has a fire behind it, and I think that it's used well here.

You get a great feel for some of the artists' many influences throughout the song as you hear elements of indie rock, progressive, pop rock, and classic hard rock as well, especially with the guitars.

Guitar work has an amazing approach, and the guitars themselves have a great tone to them.

Layers are coming through, and this gives the song a lot of depth. There is one guitar that's a little cleaner, playing single-note arpeggiated chords, while another one that overlaps it, plays chords in a more distorted or heavy sort of feel.

This is really well thought out and gives the song a thick and lush feel so that it comes through very full-bodied, and because of that, it gives everything a really well-balanced sonic drive.

During the verses, you really get those lyrics soaked right in. You pay attention to them, pick up on the messaging and sentiment behind them, and I love that you're able to take them in during those sections.

He has an amazing way of articulating his lyrics so that you can really connect with everything that he's saying and understand exactly where he's coming from.

The song also boasts some great depth in terms of having a bit of vastness in its underbelly.

During those verses, you also have synth pads that sort of add that spaciousness in the background so that it feels more cinematic.

This works like a charm and does indeed add a bit more depth to the song.

The vocals are, as I mentioned earlier, anthemic. I love this because it adds the power behind everything.

The song itself is definitely driving, has that great rock backbone, but the vocals really push the envelope so that you can feel the sense of emotion and power behind everything.

Later on in the track, he's got some great backing vocals that serve almost like harmonies and this also creates more layers of texture to everything.

It's a very texturally rich song. Between the vocals and the guitars, everything comes through impactfully.

He's also not afraid to belt out when he wants to. During some of those choruses and especially towards the end of the song, he really belts out, and you can hear more of that emotion shining through.

This is a song that really let him thrive as a vocalist, and I definitely think that it stands tall in terms of showcasing an artist who is not afraid to deliver a message or insert inner thoughts or emotion into his music.

This is not one to miss, especially if you like music that lets you think or feel.

After listening to this track, I wanted to chat with Avishek about the song to find out where it came from and what may be coming next for the artist.

So, while you listen to the track, have a read through of the interview with Avishek below.

Just to introduce myself, my name is Avishek Choudhury, I'm a UK based singer-songwriter from Blackpool (Lancashire).

- Where did this song come from?

This song was born mainly out of frustration about what was going on around me, whether it's in politics or just life in general. Essentially for me, it was giving yourself a bit of a talking to, or a kick up the backside / self empowerment. Not taking any nonsense from anyone that tries to put you down or limit you in any way. For any person, whether they have been subjected to sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other form of discrimination - this song is for you, to give that power up or a boost to stand up for yourself.

- I am hearing a few different styles on this track. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My main influences in general are mainly from the likes of: Coldplay, The Script and One Republic. For this particular track, I also took some inspiration from the likes of: Muse and The Cranberries.

- What are you performing on this track?

My main & backing vocals, and acoustic guitar. The rest are made up from my two producers Ady & Lee from Sugarhouse Studios. Ady plays drums, bass, electric guitars and synths.

- Do you play live shows?

I mainly gig as a solo acoustic act just me and my electroacoustic guitar at various gigs & open mic nights. I also sing as part of a local LGBTQ+ choir in Blackpool (Lancashire, UK) called: Electric Pink Voices.

- How did this all start for you as an artist and songwriter?

It mainly began for me at my very first open mic night back in 2012 in my hometown of Blackpool whilst I was still in college.

- What's next for you? Working on more new releases?

I've currently got a few demos I'm working on, I'm collaborating with other songwriters as well at the moment. Also got a few performances with 'Electric Pink Voices' as well, especially performing in June at our local pride event.

- Did you record this at a home studio setup, or a big studio?

I had this track recorded with Ady & Lee at Sugarhouse Studios in St Helens

- What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming artists trying to get heard?

I mean, who am I to give advice to anyone? You're all free to do as you please. I'm still learning things as I go. But the main thing for me is to be your authentic self, and write / create something you care about. Inspiration is all around us. Also try new things and experiment with ideas but also don't rush into things that you're not 100% sure / comfortable with, as the saying goes: "if it's too good to be true, it probably is".

- What would you say people can expect to hear on this release?

An upbeat tune with a strong beat and message to never give up when times get tough. Give it a listen.

- Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

Firstly thanks for listening to my music, I do appreciate it. If you would like to keep up to date with things I'm up to, my main platforms I tend to use are Instagram & Facebook, I do have other links as well in my Linktree link as well (including music streaming links): https://linktr.ee/avishekchoudhury
