An Interview With aMaRo

The latest single from aMaRo brings together a number of alternative rock twists and turns that all manage to create a rock atmosphere that comes from a genuine and heartfelt place and hence towards heavier sounds of what you'd hear on the radio in the late 90s.

"This Is for You!" definitely comes from someplace authentic and this gives it that emotional drive that it really needs alongside really catchy vocal hooks especially in the chorus sections and some surprises around the corners of the single.

Layers of thick guitars create this cinematic and vast undertone that lets the song build up to its explosive and much heavier second half.

This definitely shows a lot of attention to detail and the intricacies are all really well put together and built but the song never loses that heart or soul that it was really created from in the first place, and I think that may be the most important thing of the entire song.

You get a lot of character and persona just oozing from every note of this song and it makes you think of your own people or has the ability to create memories of your own to pop into your head as if the song was a chapter of your life at some point.

Now, this might be due to the fact that I'm of a certain age and I grew up with that certain 90s Radio Rock sound and these guys nail that aesthetic.

This track certainly comes through with an impactful and sort of powerful tonality and it definitely feels like something you'd hear at the end credits of a film of some type so that cinematic element is really strong, and you can tell that this is an artist that has a true love for his craft.

Not just songwriting, but actually building and recording the song, putting the pieces together, and making things come to fruition the way they were in his head in the first place.

I'm sure something like that is not easy to do, but it seems like it may be second nature for aMaRo.

With the release of such a well woven and hard-hitting single, we wanted to have a sit-down with aMaRo to find out where exactly this track came from and what might be coming up next for the artist.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Okay, let's start with "This is For You"! This record such an alternative rock feel with some emotionally charged backing! How did this release come about? I often experienced really hard mental crises in my life, but also, I experienced the healing power of music, so I always wrote a lot of songs, when I felt very bad and therefore, I could always change my negative feelings in positive to become optimistic again and carry on my life with much hope and love.

Since I feel much better and mentally healthy again, I wanna give those wonderful experiences to others, who are currently feeling sad, lonesome, heartbroken or bad in any kind of way, so I decided to write a song, which I wanted to dedicate to every single listener to touch them in a good way, to give them a good feeling, to tell them they not alone and good exactly as they are and to give them hope to carry on living, even if they cant see any sense right now in life. That's the story behind my current Single "This is for You!"

Buzz Slayers: How did this all start for you as an artist?

When I was a very small child with about three years old and listened the first time to the old audio cassettes of Elvis Presley, my grandmother often showed me, I felt such an unbelievable happiness and joy of life, which inspired me, I needed to learn to play guitar and sing like Elvis. My parents always supported me so much, so I started with Cello and classical guitar lessons at a music school with six years old, all in all both instruments for seven years. With 14 years old, I founded my first band with some friends and started to write my first own songs. In 2010, I created my Solo-Singer songwriter project aMaRo and wrote and recorded many songs and performed also at my Open Mics and Jam Sessions and got to know so many amazing people in the berlin musician community.

Buzz Slayers: What kind of things really inspire songs for you?

aMaRo is italian and means bitter, amar means to love someone, so I was very often unhappy in love with some women and also wrote a lot of songs about that. So, I think, thats the best therapy to heal yourself again and again to forget that pain.

Another big inspiration is my faith in Jesus and God and some of my songs are dedicated to them and expresses my Christian believe.

Another song, my forelast Single "Up and Down" is about the only constance in life: Change and the never ending ups and downs in life, everyone knows.

Buzz Slayers: This single has some interesting approaches to it! Can you give us some of your biggest influences musically?

I heard a lot of rock bands in my youth, which really inspired me musically: Creed, Evanescence, Linkin Park, Muse, Nickelback, Sevendust, Stained, Metallica, Slipknot ect. Buzz Slayers: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

In 2015/16, I made a study called "EX-IN" (experienced involvement) for mental crises experienced persons, who reflect their own crises and to give their experience knowledge to other psychic sick people with some conversations or accompanied walks. Last month in July 2023, I started my new job as a peer in a closed psychiatrie station in Berlin Kreuzberg. I also work as guitar teacher at a children school and privately.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in your headphones right now?

I really discovered K-Pop for me and my absolutely two favorite girl groups are Blackpink and Aespa, which Im currently hearing a lot. Buzz Slayers: Are you doing any live performances right now?

I'm attenting a lot of Jam Sessions and Open Mics in Berlin and plan also to play longer concerts, so I will apply and write to some locations here.

Buzz Slayers: Do you record these at a big studio or do you have a home studio set-up?

I made my last recordings in the Blue Lizzard Studio with my producer Tobias Thiele, but I also currently study music producer at the Deusche POP in Berlin, so soon, I will be able to record myself in my own and I will have my own home studio.

Buzz Slayers: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

I'm really active on Instagram and YouTube, Im posting there a lot of Liveperformanced and my new songs and new recordings. Im also hosting my own Open Mic, "the Golden Mic", which happens every week and it will go on happening at a new location soon. Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music? Love yourself and love others! Never think, you are not good enough! God and Jesus are full of love and they want us to love in life, cause thats, how life should be and love and happiness are the biggest sense in life! :)
