An Innovating and Character Driven New Album from victorfromtheinternet

One of the more innovative artists out there just dropped an album that absolutely breaks down boundaries, bends genres, and creates its own atmosphere, all with this payload of personality from lyrics that are both fiery and honest.

The album is called INTERNETMAN: Digital Superhero, and it's by victorfromtheinternet.

This is a fiercely experimental but incredibly addictive set of songs, each with its own aesthetic, although the entire album is very consistent, most of these tracks stand on their own two feet as singles, quite well.

The record features all kinds of hip-hop, electronic, rock, and cinematic backbone; they deliver plenty of character, inventive lyrical phrasing, and this charismatic energy that you just can't quite get away from.

"COPY CAT" is the First full track after the introduction to the record, and this is a perfect example of exactly what I'm talking about, simply because it boasts most of the staples that you hear throughout the rest of the record.

This is an amazing introduction as a first track. It opens you up to the record amazingly, although I can still say there are loads of surprises around the corners, and by the time you get three or four tracks in, you begin to expect the unexpected.

There are loads of addictive and hooky kind of spots throughout this track alone, it does have the experimental approach in terms of his production, delivering certain vocals that are highly affected by synth decimator type effects, making them sound almost robotic, a blazing synthesizer that flows through the track giving it this sort of depth and energy, and you start to get a feel for the artist's flow when it comes to rapping.

This track alone lets you fully understand how the artist is able to create builds and climaxes within his tracks so that they pack a punch where he wants them.

This is followed by a track called "my chest hurts", which definitely delivers a more straightforward approach, incredible honesty, and great detail in the lyrics to the point where you can actually relate, connect, or even paint a picture in your head as the song unfolds.

This track, along with others on the record like "i know you feel alone" definitely showcases the vulnerability aspect.

I love how this artist is able to put himself out there and really just let all these inner thoughts come spilling out for everyone else to soak in.

It really does add a great depth to the record that's already packed with layers and has a sonically driven instrumental approach.

Now, having said all that, when he wants to hit hard, he does. "HE CAN FLY???" is a damn near perfect example of exactly that. This also features a lot of edgy synthesizers, heavy-handed beats, and a vocal approach that's way rougher.

He's coming at you with a different kind of energy that feels more aggressive, all those still have his vibe attached to it.

He sort of morphs and changes characters depending on what the song is.

This is a brilliant approach because it also helps you understand that you can, again, expect the unexpected when it comes to this record.

He's 100% influenced by a slew of different kinds of music, especially in terms of wrapping. He definitely infuses a lot of electronic with his hip hop, and is not afraid to bring guitars into the mix, adding a little bit of rock tonality to certain songs, "my chest hurts" being one of them.

One of my favorite tracks has to be "RING AROUND THE ROSY" as this one, to me, really brings out a load of almost theatrical character. He's really bouncing around with those vocals and creating scenarios in his head. He's letting out these pieces of himself that he's not afraid to deliver.

Now again, this does happen often throughout the record. He refers to himself in different lights at times, calling himself a hero, and other times calling himself an asshole.

You can't really get more honest than that.

This is absolutely one of those records that I would suggest listening to all the way through, and one shot. Listening to one or two songs will not give you anywhere near the full spectrum that the album has to offer.

The songs I mentioned are my favorites. Again, they'd be great as singles, but if you have the time, check this full record out because it's well worth it. The album is 15 tracks, including the introduction, and is just over 37 minutes long.

I know you have time for that.

So, if you want something diverse, inventive, honest, character-riddled, and addictive, then this album was 100% for you.

After listening to this, I knew I wanted to chat with victorfromtheinternet, so, while you listen to the album, have a read through of our interview with the artist below.

Do not forget where you heard it first.

Where did this album come from?

This album came from a place the culmination of a series of unfortunate events and the pressure to get somewhere with this music.

What is it about?

This album is from the perspective of a man who wears a mask and calls himself INTERNETMAN and takes requests through an app.. Think Hancock meets taskrabbit, he has no powers that we know of and he's not very good at his job, but he's still trying.

I am hearing those different styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My biggest influences are of course the Odd Future crew (Tyler, Earl, Frank and Hodgy Beats). In addition to that I take a lot of influence from Childish Gambino (especially his older work like "eat your vegetables" and Royalty) in addition to Steve Lacy, Teezo Touchdown, A$AP Rocky and Kid Cudi.

What are you performing on this record?

I haven't performed yet but I do plan to perform COPY CAT, HE'S OUR....HERO and LOVE ME AGAIN.

Do you play live shows? If so, how does that work for you?

Have not played any live shows yet.

How did this all start for you as an artist and songwriter?

Wow it's hard to say but when I first moved to Seattle one of my friends was a rapper and hanging around him alot in his home studio got me intrigued. It was at that point I heard an interview from Flo Mili saying she got started by rapping on YouTube beats and I thought to myself "why not?" And it's been an almost everyday thing ever since. I've always loved music, I used to take guitar lessons and had dreams of being a rock star. Those dreams haven't died per se as I still want to incorporate my love for rock and indie into my own music.

What's next for you? Working on more new releases?

I like to think of myself as a lifelong learner, I've released an album yeah, but I still want to improve my rapping ability. So right now I'm working on some new singles to perfect my craft. Whether these get released by themselves or part of another project we shall see, but I am definitely still working on new music.

Did you record this at a home studio setup, or a big studio?

I did a lot of the songs in my home studio setup but I also spent some time in the home studios of some other engineers I really love working with.

What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming artists trying to get heard?

Be shameless and double down on what works. You can't be afraid to over promote yourself on the internet, that's what it's for. And also try not to get sucked into consuming content on the internet while posting. Additionally your fans will take you places you never could get on your own, so talk to them and interact with them.

What would you say people can expect to hear on this release?

I would express to them that you're going to hear from a man who's really passionate about music but still learning at the same time. You'll hear a lot of Because the Internet, Chromokapia , Flower Boy and Gemini.

Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my music, your support means the world to me and I can't wait to top this last project with my next one.
