An Honest Folk-Pop Single from Annie & The Make Believe

A new single from Annie &The Make Believe brings out a unique breed of honesty in the form of a warm contemporary pop and Americana crossover soundscape and one of the things that really gets you attached to this piece of music is the personality that comes along with it.

"On Repeat" shows several influences in pop but has this amazing set of guitar tones and vocals that bring that welcoming and warm tonality to everything.

The vocal approach on this track is outstanding because she delivers a lot of heart, and in the process, she gives these great bends in her notes that breathe life into the song, along with some beautiful harmonies during the chorus sections, and it all comes through feeling very lush and full-bodied.

If you pay attention to the lyrics, the song is super relatable. Anyone in certain kinds of relationships can understand, and because of that, the song not only feels personal but also feels connective.

It's a track that talks about being in a relationship that you feel is going to end, so you better let go now because you know what's about to happen anyway.

All the emotions and feelings that go along with thinking your relationship is about to end are expressed as this track unfolds, and I find it really alluring because of how descriptive she can be in expressing those emotions.

In certain aspects it feels like she's the one that's going to end the relationship, and she knows she's going to get over it.

Either way, we can all relate to that, and she has a wonderful way of articulating all of that in her words and music.

The energy of this track, along with the tonality, are both amazing simply because it feels almost like a live performance.

It's almost like the songs were recorded live on the floor, and it has a strange way of putting you right there in the moment.

I love hearing a song by an artist and just having the feeling that seeing this performed live would be amazing.

Listening to this track makes you want to go see her perform it.

I love the variables of acoustic pop, little elements of rock, contemporary, and a little of that southern undertone hidden just beneath the surface.

This was quite a beautiful song and very expressive, along with a performance instrumentally and vocally that both have an amazing balance and show that personality right on the forefront.

Upon listening to this single, I checked out some more for releases and they're all amazing.

A record from 2016 that spans five tracks really showcases different aspects of how she wrote back then and there is a single released in 2024 called "It Got Bad" which is another amazing example of how she puts pieces of herself into her music.

This is an artist who writes songs with no walls built around them. It's her way of expressing how she feels, and it's something that has a way of wrapping itself around you and keeping you right where it wants to.

It was also very enjoyable hearing all those musical influences come through in one song.

The hook of this track is something that sticks in your head for hours or even days after the song has ended, and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to it again.

Either that's just smart songwriting, or that's just how she writes her music. This track was perfectly charismatic, infectious, and memorable to say the least and I would suggest listening to this one first and then going through her catalog on Spotify to listen to some of her previous releases as well.

They all have something to say, tell a story, or showcase a part of Annie that she wants to put out there.

If you're a fan of folk pop, Americana, or contemporary pop, you're definitely going to love this track.

Remember where you heard it first.
