Emma Lindquist returns with a new single that really reaches into the depths of certain areas in relationships and how you can get swept up by that certain someone, along with all the physical and emotional tendencies that come with that.
This is a track that portrays the artist's ability to really give you something to chew on. Lyrically, she comes forward with such amazing detail and in such an incredibly relatable manner as well.
This is something almost anyone can understand, and she lays it out there in a completely unafraid way.
It's all quite beautifully woven, and I feel like the way she puts together and articulates her lyrics is one of the artist's many specialties.
She almost always makes her tracks so relatable and connective because of how she puts her lyrics and words in her songs. It's really something that paints a bit of a picture, and in this case, it works amazingly with this beautiful and lush pop overtone that comes along with it.
What blows my mind about this single, especially, is that it blends this acoustic pop with a sort of almost '80s vintage pop tonality as well, and it's done seamlessly, with loads of catchy vocal hooks throughout its course.
There are segments of the song where she just uses her voice as an instrument and gives you these little licks that you end up holding on to after the song has ended.
There's also a lot of that acoustic instrumentation that sort of puts you in the moment with the song.
The percussion is stellar throughout this entire thing and is not only the aspect that drives the song but also one of the things that really helps it come alive.
This is very danceable. You can really move your body to it and feel the flow in your bones.
As a matter of fact, it's hard not to dance to this track. It's got a great groove that's not overdone, but instead, it all shines with this colorful and warm set of instruments that simply feel welcoming.
This is a great combination because she's being very inviting with her lyrics.
Emma is an artist that isn't afraid to put little pieces of herself in her music. She invites you into these little pieces of her life, and this song is a perfect example of exactly that.
She humanizes herself. Strangely, she helps you remember some of the reasons you are alive. It's about these particular moments, feelings, emotions, and the way she encompasses all that in one track is pretty astounding.
The artist absolutely does not hold anything back when she's writing and releasing her music. It's one of the things that make her songs so genuine. There's always this high level of authenticity coming through, because you know that the song came from life experience.
Also blends this soulful vocal approach into the pop sensibility, and it's incredible because her tone is something that feels unique, in a sense.
The way the tone of her voice mixes and messes with the instrumentation of the song feels bright and sort of soothing.
This is a song that's definitely light-hearted but still very honest.
The drummer does an amazing job, as does the guitarist, especially for bringing these rhythms together to create one solid groove.
The drummer is not just doing this, in-the-pocket style beat. It's, but it goes in these different directions and almost feels jazzy in a sense.
I like this simply because you can start hearing these different influences coming into play throughout the tracks unfolding.
This all makes it more fun.
Layers and layers of gorgeous tones from instruments to vocals, all coming together to build this inviting atmosphere, is the name of the game here.
It all works super well, and Emma gives you this particular kind of charm on top of that.
The song will definitely put you in a good mood. It's got that natural ability. The way she performs and the sensations you get from listening to the song are so spirited that you can't really shake it.
And you don't want to shake it. You want to let it get to you because it feels good.
I would actually suggest listening to this track first thing in the morning. It'll just set this certain tone for your day.
Now, we are no strangers to Emma's releases and music, and I could definitely tell you that this is an amazing direction for her, because although she does have a consistent feel with her tones and her genres, she still manages to branch out bit by bit and create something different than the last track you heard.
But don't just take my word for it, have a listen to "Closer To You", and remember where you heard it first.
