An Brilliant New Rock EP from Gloria

A brand new release from Gloria delivers quite a vast undertone and cinematic rock soundscape that blends into progressive, classic, grunge, alternative rock, and plenty more, all rolled into one fat record that boasts tons of amazing energy and layers of textured guitar tone that you can just swim through.

Don't get me wrong, this is a record that has depth to it and definitely hits hard with certain kinds of riffs, but there are also tracks here that layer on clean guitars that feel thick, full-bodied, and lush.

I love those vast and spacious songs and how they feel almost engulfed.

"Lie" serves as a damn near perfect example of exactly what I'm talking about as the track comes through with those clean guitars, but again, in layers and with a tone that feels expansive.

The drum beat behind this track really gives it an updated feel, while the guitars feel classic.

It also sounds like there are synth pads that serve almost like orchestrated string sections in the background, adding a different layer of depth and texture, but also giving it a theatrical backbone.

The vocals on the track are very melodically driven, but also give you the sensation of putting you right there in the moment with the song.

One of the things I have to say I love about songs like this one, in particular, is the mix. The mix is very balanced here, so the vocals aren't super loud. They're actually right in there with the guitars and everything else, so you can hear all the instrumentation.

It is songs like this one from the record that I would suggest listening to with headphones on so you can soak all of this awesome atmosphere in.

The record opens up with a great single called "End of The Race (Yeh)", which does have clean guitars but with this chorus like effect on them giving them a sort of wavy watery feel, you also have an amazing drum performance on this that doesn't just drive the song, sticking to the pocket, but also gives it a full liveliness that I feel like the rest of the band pushes off of.

The bass guitar is essential on tracks like this one because it gives such a cool line, and the tone of it is really killer. I feel like the tone is a mix between progressive rock and post-punk.

Throughout listening to this record, you can start hearing their slew of influences that they hold close and how they're able to blend them together to create something that's got its own feel.

This comes through with a heavy-handed chorus, distorted guitars, and crew chants that aren't exactly punk rock, but have the same energy.

This is a fists-in-the-air sort of sing-along type of track, and it's got an anthemic approach that really works.

Some of the classic hard rock comes in with tracks like "CATACLYSM", as the riff and guitar tone are classic, driving, heavy rock and roll all the way through.

This is a track that switches things up and puts a little bit more reverb effect on things like the vocals to give them a little bit more depth, and keeps the guitar work upfront, bringing out edginess and power.

This is a bit of a power-rock style track, but again, it brings out a vintage sort of late 80s, early 90s rock where some of the other songs go different directions.

By the time you get to this track, it's the third song out of four, and you can already hear how they branch off into some of those many influences I mentioned earlier.

This is all part of what makes the record so damn fun.

The closing track, "Wait & See", is the one that I think actually blends a lot of their styles on one track.

You have some of the unique time signatures and percussion, you have the clean guitars and the heavy ones, which helps some of the theatrical underbelly come through, and it all hits perfectly.

This is an EP you need to listen to all the way through from start to finish. Even though it is only four songs, listening to just one or two of them will not give you the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer.

Another thing I need to mention is the energy level of the band itself. Listening to certain tracks like this closing track, especially, gives you this air of a live performance.

It feels like songs like this one were recorded live on the floor, and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.

Of course, I wasn't there for the recording, and they probably didn't do it that way, but listening to this record makes you want to go see them perform it live, simply because, if you can capture this kind of energy and aesthetic on record this well, then seeing them live must be awesome.

I bet they're a great live band in general.

At any rate, this is a brand new EP that just dropped today, and I definitely suggest you jump on board with it.

Again, this is for anyone who loves progressive, experimental, alternative rock that blends classic styles in with all of that and is able to produce songs that have some depth and power behind them.

Take a deep dive into this one now and remember where you heard it first.
