A massive new single from Overlaps delivers a spacious but edgy tonality in the form of a heavy-handed alternative rock song that also manages to blend in elements of shoegaze and more as it unfolds.
There is something incredibly anthemic about this track, and I feel like it comes from how the vocals are sort of powerful and have some soul behind them, but also because the instruments come into those choruses like a wall of sonic drive crashing into you.
This is definitely heavy in terms of that tonality, and some of it comes from the guitar work, but there's also the bass guitar tone, which I feel like has some kind of effect on it that makes it more robust, and heavier.
You can tell a lot of thought went into the tones of their instruments and how they wanted to create that ambient underbelly as well.
Throughout the track, you have that space underneath everything. There is a cinematic sort of expansive aesthetic that comes along with the rest of it, and this adds depth to the entire thing.
The vocalist is incredible in terms of delivering personality. This track has a lot of character built into it, and she does give off some honesty and Truth with those lyrics, articulates them amazingly, and still manages to come through with elements of catchiness, repeating certain phrases and embedding them in your head.
During those verses, you have an airy feel, almost dreamlike. Plucking guitars that are sort of laced throughout those sections, providing a kind of different texture so that you get engulfed by that soundscape for a moment.
This was definitely a bit intense, especially during those gigantic choruses.
Because of that spaciousness and heaviness combining, you get a bit of a shoegaze tone as well. I really like this because, as boisterous and heavy as it is, it also is very melodically based, and the progression is awesome.
Some great breakdown and bridge sections give you energy, sort of glitchy production elements that polish the song off and make it feel a little bit futuristic, but also boast more of that cinematic tone.
This was very well produced as a whole. The entire thing comes through with a powerful sort of punch; it's got realism, soul, and it's hard, but again, feels a little vulnerable.
She certainly isn't afraid to let some of her deeper thoughts out during this track, and I like that. I dig a track that can give you chunks of personality the way that this one does, while still being grungy and very alternative.
This is a tract that's got a lot of layers to it. All the sonic textures and tones come together to create a very specific kind of atmosphere, and it's easy to get swallowed up by it.
I feel like the tone of the singer's vocals is amazing with those instrumental textures. They seem to complement each other extremely well, and in all, you have a song that is very driving and absolutely alternative rock-based, but it's got these other elements that let it branch out.
It's been a while since I've heard a heavier song that still has that cinematic feel and all those layers and depth to go along with it.
This is a song with fire behind it. It's not super aggressive or anything. It just has this fiery kind of passion behind it that pushes it forward unless it feels impactful.
This was completely memorable, and it boasted as much character as it did edginess.
It's a track meant to be listened to nice and loud, and I feel like by that last chorus, you might even be singing along with it, fists in the air, and belting out loud.
The guitar tone overall is absolutely perfect. As I mentioned before, the way the instruments are put together in terms of their tones lets those choruses have a massive impact.
It's a part of why the arrangement works so well.
Horses are the sections that have the area undertones, while the choruses are the explosive parts.
So the song has a sort of breathing element to it. After those big, heavy choruses, it exhales back down to the verses and gives you a little bit of Calm before the storm once again.
The whole thing was very well woven and performed with loads of heart and just the right levels of intensity to make it work perfectly.
Please check this track as soon as you can, and feel free to turn it up.
Remember where you heard it first.
