A Robust New Single from Julian Taylor

ree

A new single release from Julian Taylor brings out such a unique set of approaches that blend southern rock with classic country, a bit of added drive, plenty of Soul, and this robust chorus that just feels cinematic and heavy-handed.

"Don't Let 'Em (Get Inside Of Your Head)" utilizes such rich instrumentation from acoustic and electric guitars with plenty of that classic southern kissed twang all over them, banjo sitting firmly in the background during those choruses, and live percussion along with amazing bass guitar tone and this wonderful knack for production and letting songs build to those climactic points perfectly.

Again, this is pretty cinematic, and a lot of it comes from that chorus itself. It's so bountiful and memorable, performed with layers of vocals that are harmonizing and doubled up so that you have a very thick set of textures coming in and making the track more impactful in those moments.

As the song unfolds and you get into the second verse, you have keyboards that are sort of peppered in and adding a different tone and texture to the song itself, giving a sort of bopping rhythm during those verses.

This actually serves the song super well because it adds more of that lush tonality to the song.

This course is seriously addictive. It sits in your head for hours or even days after the song has ended, and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to it again.

It's got such a wonderful harmony and there are these organs that are held out throughout those parts that let the song push that cinematic back won't even further out.

You can tell there was a lot of thought and attention that went into how the song would unfold, the arrangement, the composition; it was all particularly put together so that the song had an impact.

You can tell this is someone who has a real love for his craft. When I say this, I don't just mean playing guitar or singing; I mean writing songs is his gift, and the ability to craft a track that comes at you with so much soul and with such depth is pretty impressive.

It's no surprise that the artist has already accumulated such amazing accolades as winning CTV's The Launch, along with Juno nominations and several Native American Music Awards. Not to mention the SOCAN Foundation indigenous songwriter of the Year award.

This track exemplifies why exactly he has those accolades under his belt.

He takes those Southern Country and American influences, blends in Soul and rock, giving songs the feeling of being alive and breathing.

This is one of the more recent releases from the artist, but he does hold quite an extensive discography, which you can hear a lot of on Spotify. This ranges from multiple albums to EP's, singles, and plenty more.

Julian has enough releases to wrap your head around for an entire day.

This was all very well put together, and if you dig this track, then you should absolutely listen to some of his previous work, if not all of it.

As the artist is currently on tour throughout the rest of November and kicking back up in early January 2026, we wanted to have a chat with him to find out where this all came from, how he fell into it, and what the future holds.

So, while you check out this track and most of his catalog, which is what you should be doing right now, take a read through of our interview with Julian Taylor below.

Remember where you heard this first.

Let's talk about "Don't Let 'Em (Get Inside of Your Head)"! This single had an alt-rock backbone as it was edgy but it also kept to a southern rock undertone! Huge chorus!! Where did this track come from?

It was sitting in my old demo vault.  I was searching for some old tunes to bring back to life.

I'm hearing a few different approaches to this song! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I’m influenced more by styles of music and albums then I am particular artists. Roots, Rhythm and Blues, Country, Rock, Reggae, Soul and Hip Hop are my favourite genres.  I love Jazz too.  I tried to mix each of my favourite genres into this one song as best I we could.

Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?

It was recorded at Gold Standard Recorders which is around the corner from my home.  The original demo was co-written with keyboardist Dave Engle and recorded at his house.  It was mixed at my friend Saam Hashemi’s house.

What are you performing on this single?

I am playing electric and acoustic guitar and singing lead vocals and harmonies.

How did this all start for you as an artist?

I honestly can’t remember but I think it all started when I was four years old and started playing piano.

Are you performing live right now? Any touring set up in support of this release?

Yeah… I am on a tour of Western Canada right now

Now that this is out, what's next for you as an artist?

I have already recorded a few other songs that are getting mixed and master for 2026 and I will also be recording a new album in the spring

Who's in all your headphones right now?

I was just listening to Orchestra Baobab, Nas, The Frames, Goose, The Sheepdogs and Colter Wall

What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Ironically someone at the show approached me last night and said that he couldn’t get it out of his head. LOL

Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

That we are all one song so keep singing, playing, dreaming and dancing!
