A personal Yet Pop-Coated New Single from Stevie Violet

A new single release from Stevie Violet definitely has this amazing sort of surf pop rock approach as the guitars have an amazing tone to them, reminding you of classic beach-rock, that also leans into this indie rock area as well, with beautifully bending vocals, and a sentiment that feels like it comes from someplace authentic.

The guitar work across this track is brilliant simply because it delivers so many hooks. I really miss songs with instrumental hooks. The chorus is awesome as it should be; it's the catchiest part, but those guitar hooks are really an intricate part of this track, and why it works the way it does.

The track is unique in the sense that a lot of it is played on single notes as opposed to a lot of chords. During the chorus section, there are arpeggiated chords that are played, but for the most part, it's single notes all the way through, which also brings us back to the whole surf rock field.

The drumming is amazing too because it doesn't just add the drive, it gives a little bit of liveliness to the track and builds the energy really well. I feel like everything else about the song sort of feeds off of that.

It even gives the essence of a live performance, especially with the energy.

The bass guitar follows the main riff a lot of the time but definitely adds that good low end that the song needs to push forward.

This is a song about a relationship, or so it would seem.

She's very descriptive with her lyrics so it paints an amazing picture as the song unfolds, and that lets it be more relatable or connective.

We all sort of know that person she's singing about.

Everyone has their flaws, and this song is about someone who has a lot of amazing attributes but is a little stuck-up or bratty.

I love the way she depicts this aspect. She sings about how maybe in her world she's a perfect little girl, but no one told her no.

There's definitely a relationship there because she also sings this amazing little Bridge section where she says "I hope you cry when you think about me".

At least, that's how I interpreted the song. Others may take it a little differently, but for me, the sentiment was pretty loud and clear.

This was really danceable as well. It had a great, spirited, kind of colorful aesthetic to it, and I love that Stevie was able to combine that sort of pop overtone and addictive, surfy guitar aspect with something that felt more personal.

Being able to be a touch vulnerable and believe that into a pop-coated soundscape is not really an easy thing to do, but with Stevie, it just feels like it's a natural thing.

So, you have the honesty, the history, a lot of personality that comes out, plenty of that inner thought that also comes spilling out for everyone to soak in, and just a brilliant way of constructing a song that gets stuck in your head for hours after it's ended.

Also, that live energy thing is super evident. Listening to the song actually makes you want to see her perform it live.

The song is called "BBG", and it's out right now, hot on the heels of her last single, "Kaleidoscope", which definitely showcases a little bit of a different side to her Artistry and her personality, but certainly also shows how she gives pieces of herself in her music.

They're also a few singles released last year that are outstanding, and if you dig this track, I suggest you listen to everything.

As far as we can tell, both of these tracks are set to be part of an upcoming full album release for this April.

I certainly can't wait to hear it simply because I know that I'm going to get stories. I know that I'm going to get something genuine and lyrics that come from some real place.

It's the personality behind these songs that you end up really getting yourself attached to, and I'm sure the full record's going to deliver loads of that.

At any rate, these two tracks will definitely keep me at bay for the time being, and I suggest you check them both out now.

Upon listening, I wanted to have a chat with Stevie to find out where this is all coming from and what may be up next for her.

So, while you listen, have a read through of our interview with the artist below.

Remember where you heard it first.

Thanks so much for taking the time! Let's jump right into "BBG"! This had a blend of surf-rock, pop, and amazing energy!

Where did this track come from and what was it about?

So my good friend Jack Kurtz and I started writing this song in his dorm room. I was really ready to move my music in another direction and create some more upbeat, danceable tracks. He came up with that main surfer-rock bass riff that blew my mind and it only grew from there. The tone was aggressive, but fun and I wanted to lean into that when writing the lyrics. The song became about being happy to be done with a toxic relationship, but more so realizing the person you fell in love with isn’t all that your mind made them out to be.

I am hearing a few different styles on this single. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

That quite a loaded question for me because I really do have such a broad taste! I’d say for this song there was a lot of Olivia Rodrigo and Paramore on our minds, however I think the Beach Boys and other surf-rock icons had a big influence as well.

Are you performing live right now?

Yes! I’m having a release show in Bloomington, IN about a week before my album comes out on 4/18, and am also planning a variety of shows all over Indiana this summer, as well as one in Louisville!

How did this all start for you as a songwriter?

I’ve always needed some sort of artistic outlet to keep me sane, but I’ve always said I went in the musical direction because of my dad. He studied classical guitar in college and really introduced me to a lot of the artists who made me fall in love with music.

Did you work with a producer on this track?

I’d say most of the production was done my me and my cowriter Jack Kurtz, but my mix engineer, Jack Daye, definitely made some production choices as well and brought the track to life.

What are you performing on the single?

I do all the vocals and bass.

What's next for you? Working on more new releases?

My new song “Talk” will be out April 4th, with an album coming soon after. It’s been an absolute blast to create and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!

What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming songwriters or artists trying to get heard?

Start and do not stop. It is a 24/7 job and a lot of the work has nothing to do with your art. Learn the business skills, learn how to use social media, and get out and meet people face to face. The best opportunities come from genuine interaction.

What would you say people can expect to hear on this song?

Anger, hurt, and a urge to dance it all away.

Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

Thank you so much for all your support! I can’t even begin to describe how much it means to me that my art brings even one person joy. I couldn’t do any of this without you and I’d give you the world if I could! <3
