A personal and Honest New Single from Makaio Huizar

ree

A beautifully personal new single release from Makaio Huizar delivers a different kind of holiday song. One that reaches into the depths of inner struggle and comes through with a lot of bravery, simply because there's so much honesty and inner thought that comes spilling out for all to soak in, that it's almost impossible to turn away from.

There's something eerily connective about "Merry Xmas I Guess", and I think this is due to how we've all been in a certain place in our lives, at times, which can be during the holidays.

When you meet people, you never really know what kind of struggle they're going through, whether it's mental, physical, outbound, or inbound; there are a lot of things to deal with when it comes to just being alive.

This track delves into the small spaces and how you want to have Christmas or holiday spirit, but there's such a mess going on in your life that it's hard to come through it.

The beautiful thing about a song like this is that it reminds us that everything ends. It's not about positive or negative, in particular. Everything ends. Whatever you're going through right now, that will end as well. Things can and will get better.

I find this song to be one of the most honest and truthful, authentic and impactful singles that I have heard in quite some time, because it is focused on Christmas.

No holiday affects people the same. Everyone is in a different place in their life, no matter what time of the year it is, and this track expresses that perfectly.

This is a very vast and cinematic track musically. There's a lot of spaciousness going on, and it's easy to get swallowed up or engulfed by everything that you're hearing.

It is heavily based on piano and keys. There is an organ-style synth that spans the track and gives it more depth, pushing that emotional backbone even further.

It's quite astounding how the music of this track sets the mood so well for the lyrics.

To me, it is orchestral, powerful, and has a beautiful flow to it that feels completely natural.

It's very easy to get wrapped up in this single and everything it stands for. Again, mostly because we've all been there at some point.

Sometimes the holidays can be hard.

Makaio was able to take this sentiment with such an impressively personal approach and really just let it all out there.

It was elegant and intense at the same time. Sullen but a little hopeful, and 100% genuine from start to finish.

This is a song you listen to with headphones on so you can soak in the lyrics and the music together. You will find yourself swimming through memories of your own quite quickly.

This is part of why it's so connective and relatable. You think of your people, your situation, your inner thoughts, or your sense of loss at different times throughout the song.

It's important to remember that, even when things feel a bit hopeless, there is hope. You have to hold on to that hope and push through because there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

This was a single that gives a lot, and you can tell that the artist gives a piece of themselves with the music released.

This is what true art is all about. Writing songs with fewer walls built around them. This is a perfect example of exactly that. There are no walls built around this song whatsoever. It is out in the open and extremely vulnerable, which can be a very powerful thing.

So, put on some headphones and take this song in for what it is because it's quite an experience.

Remember where you heard it first.
