A New Single From REXEN is HERE

ree

REXEN is back with another new single and the third in line leading up to his upcoming full-length release. The new track called "Can See You" demonstrates how the artist can create songs that feel theatrical tonally and arrangement, along with using unique instrumentation to write songs that are still pop-oriented and keep that sensibility strong by building memorable melodies and hooks, but doing it in a way that is a bit outside the box, slightly experimental, and endlessly addictive.

This single has such a beautiful subtlety to it, but also showcases how REXEN can build songs in terms of his arrangement. He always has this unique approach to having songs grow into something different. The song remains what it is, but some areas reach bits of climactic points, still coated in a wonderful pop sensibility, but by the time it gets to that point, you're pulled into this other world.

The song has a great rhythm and sort of bops along with light guitars and what sounds like strings that are peppered throughout it.

His vocals are whispering and airy, which actually draws more attention to the lyrics than you would think. Because of this vocal approach, you really lean in and grab onto those lyrics as he tells his story.

This is an artist who usually tells stories from personal perspectives and also has some descriptive elements in those lyrics that help paint a picture as songs play through.

The song feels almost like jazz or samba in its underbelly, and it comes through feeling quite contemporary, as everything about it actually has that almost whispery feel. Everything is played with a specific kind of dynamic that is light and sort of drifting, in a sense.

There are loads of melodies throughout this single, and at times, a lot of the instrumentation follows the vocals or vice versa, so you have those really floating around in your brain afterwards.

There are great piano sections and lines that give you different textural elements to the track, and the whole thing just feels warm and somewhat inviting.

The music of REXEN is always quite unique with different approaches to the songwriting, and again, this is the third single leading up to that new LP coming up. "Hollywood", which is really unique and almost animated vocally, still brings on a semi-theatrical feel and aesthetic, and still shows how he can write songs that are dripping with a pop approach but in a different way.

Others like "My Heart', give them a more straightforward folk-pop or acoustic pop approach, live percussion, really great hooks and choruses, and between all three of these singles so far, you can really get a feel for his eclectic approaches to creating this record.

You get a sense for the tones and Aesthetics that are being built, but still know that there are going to be plenty of surprises around the corners when the record actually releases.

If you are new to the music of REXEN, then jump over to Spotify now, and you can listen to these three songs to see exactly what I'm talking about.

Michael Rexen is a Danish performer and composer who has always utilized great inspiration from life itself to create his music, and as far as we can hear, it's quite boundless.

This is part of what makes it so good. He breaks down walls and creates music that suits his mood or pulls inspiration from particular places musically and brings them to the plate.

Either way, you're getting something a bit unique and, as I mentioned earlier, slightly experimental or avant-garde, but still under the pop umbrella and always somewhat colorful. The songs have a flavor and flair that you start getting a great feel for after a few tracks.

So, check out  "Can See You", along with a few of the others, you can hear from the record now.

Remember where you heard it first.
