A breathtaking new single from Alto Aria delivers a vast undertone with a lush overtone that comes together to create this beautiful atmosphere that you get swallowed up by, and I mean that in the best way possible.
The new single is called "Stars Align", and although it has an electronic backbone due to digital instruments, it does also have a natural feel to it. The tones are still very warm, with a flow that drifts through the air around you, inviting you to drift alongside the soundscape.
"Stars Align" is a song that you listen to with headphones. The reason is that you can really take in all the amazing textures and tones that fluctuate throughout the song and get engulfed in it.
The vocals are gorgeous. They have such a wonderful tone to them. The way they are performed is soothing, in a sense. They drift and are almost used like instruments themselves.
This is one of the more atmospheric singles I've heard in a while, and it pulled me away from whatever I was doing and put me in another world for a moment, which I totally appreciate.
The production is also something that took me away. There are layers of synthesizers and keys, pads, and sounds that really just come through robustly, but they sort of swell and sway at the same time.
The whole song comes in and out like waves of the ocean. You get these big swells of sonic presence, and when they happen, at their height, you are sucked into everything.
The song is also very orchestrated. This isn't just something that was thrown together. You can tell that a lot of attention is paid to the arrangement and mix.
Now, I don't always talk about a song's mix, but here I think it's really important. This song has a bit of a slow burn, but that's part of its point. It also has a beautifully gradual build to it that gets bigger and bigger as the song unfolds. The vocals play a part in that as well because they grow slightly more intense as the song does.
By the last chunk of the track, everything is kind of in full swing. You have robust and boisterous layers that still have that sort of swimming and flowing feel, like water.
It's all very dreamy. I would consider this to be more dream pop than anything else, but it also boasts such a heavy-handed cinematic backbone that you can't turn away from it.
You have instruments like a cello, along with other strings that don't just add texture to the song, but rather add more melodies and hooks to it all.
I found that to be really alluring, simply because it builds on that cinematic feel, and you can tell, once again, that the thought process of how this would all be put together was a deep one.
It's not just layers of tone and texture; it's layers of melody as well. These melodies intertwine and sometimes bounce off of each other, and in such a brilliant manner that you think about those aspects after the song is over.
There's also a lot of thought that went into the mix once again. The mix, whether it was done by Alto Aria themself or a producer, was definitely well done.
Whoever worked with them on this in terms of the finalized mix understood the mission completely.
This is a song that had to have depth to it. And it does. It's got distance, depth, layers, and just a wondrous and semi-fantastical sort of atmosphere.
This is most certainly a track that hit me in a certain way.
As I mentioned earlier, using headphones to soak in all of this is the best way to do it. When you listen with headphones, you're not missing out on anything.
Listening in the car with the surround speakers is also great, but headphones really do the trick for putting you in the moment with the song.
You don't want to miss out on any of those layers or any of the depth that the song actually delivers. As much as I love the production, the vocals are really the pinnacle of not just sending the message, but tonally, pushing the song forward.
Letting it all begin in one place and end in another.
This was outstanding, and I really can't wait to hear more from Alto Aria after hearing this song.
Don't miss out on this one, and remember where you heard it first.
