A fresh EP release from the Cyber Bullies delivers a righteous and thrashing classic pop and skate punk combination and it all comes through with a vivacious approach and unstoppable energy mainly because it's all part of a live performance.
The Bridge City Session EP is absolutely thriving with a combination of humor, color, and edginess and it's pulled off perfectly with this sort of classic aesthetic that blends in punk rock tonalities from several different decades from the early 80s through the 90s and even now.
I love this approach because you can hear the different influences coming through with different tracks on the record and the EP spans only four tracks and about 10 minutes but it's so fun it's unreal.
The riffs and guitar tone as a whole are pretty classic and it also boasts a little bit more Edge which I definitely like because these again are complete punk rock bangers but I certainly think my favorite aspect is the sheer fact that it's live because you can really feel the energy bouncing back and forth between the players.
I love hearing a record where everyone involved in the band is just feeding off of each other's energies the whole time and this is a perfect example of exactly that.
You can certainly tell these guys are having an absolute blast and that this is a band that has a pure love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together to put out into the world so people can jump around and sing along with them.
This record was meant to be a good time and it certainly accomplishes that without a hitch.
I also really dig how every element of the instrumentation seems to push the next and complement each other well.
It's like the drumming and the guitars are just super in sync and exist solely to push each other over the limit. The drums pound harder, and the guitars thrash bigger. The whole thing just works so well.
This is definitely a record that gives you a great taste of what these guys are like live in your face and listening to it makes you want to go actually see them personally so that you can kind of soak in that energy even more.
There are plenty of memorable moments, hooks, choruses, and parts of songs that you end up sort of singing in your head on repeat for hours or even days after the songs have ended and the only way to satiate that is to go and listen to them again which in my opinion is just good punk rock song writing.
A lot of the stuff reminds me of the kind of punk rock I grew up listening to and it really felt slightly nostalgic and really welcoming for me listening to this record.
I strongly suggest you check this out as soon as you can, especially if you're a fan of skate punk, pop punk, or any kind of real deal, authentic punk rock.
Definitely do not be afraid to turn it up because the louder you turn it the better it sounds somehow and it's been a long time since I've even heard a punk rock record that boasts this much character and I feel like that may be one of the most important aspects about the whole thing.
Dive into this record when you can, and remember where you heard it first.
