The Transits are back, and their latest effort is in the form of a full-length, 15-track record that is absolutely massive and shines with presence and has a wonderful way of showcasing how the band can pull together songs that feel anthemic, inspirational, uplifting, but also edgy, dark, and can run the gamut of pop-punk with that shimmering alternative edge.
The record is called Bleed Hope, and it certainly doesn't waste a lot of time, but the first track, "Outsiders", which clearly serves as a misfits' anthem and opens the door to the rest of the record perfectly. This track alone gives you some of the close-fisted and sing-along kind of powerhouse songwriting that you're going to get throughout a lot of the rest of the album.
The way these guys write their songs is very particular, but it works in so many different ways simply because they're pulling together this pop overtone that's almost always there but bringing it in different directions in terms of alternative and punk music.
One of my favorite aspects about this record and this is something that is definitely a staple of the band's sound, is the bass guitar tone. The bass guitar has a great way of driving certain tracks and giving them a slamming kind of sound.
That bass guitar tone really adds an edginess when it's needed, but also takes walks when it's needed. So, you have this amazing balance of the more invasive and edgy style, combined with the more melodic and flowing feel. That bass guitar is a huge part of why this record works the way it does.
Plus, anyone who listens to real punk rock knows that the bass guitar tone is super imperative as to how the aesthetic of an album can and will sound.
The Transits is a band that always pays attention to the tones of their instruments.
Again, this is just the first track, and the record does go in different directions, but always stays true to the heart of it all, which is that alternative and punk mixture, but they bring in all kinds of other elements to the table that brighten things up or make things sound more impactful.
For example, "Bleed Hope" is insanely inspirational. It feels like a song that's about things coming at you, but you just always have hope. Holding on to that hope is everything, and it's a relatable aspect of everyday life. It's hard to hold on to that hope, but some of us just believe it because it's what drives us.
Sometimes we need songs with heavy-handed messages like this to feel connected, and this track absolutely does that.
As the album unfolds, you have a slew of different approaches, with some feeling more robust or widespread, bringing in elements of grunge, more pop, even indie rock at times.
To me, songs like "Ghosts of Summer" bring together a lot of those elements.
One of the best examples of how they're able to intertwine this wonderfully bright pop feel is when they bring in elements of synths and keys to their tracks. This is a standard thing for them now, and this really adds a different texture to a lot of the songs. It builds that bigger atmosphere, and songs that are uplifting feel even more infectious and massive.
There's something that the synthesizers and keys add to a song that changes the aesthetic and brings it to a different place because of the texture and tone of how they blend with the guitars.
Now, if you're not familiar with The Transits, I can tell you that some of these songs have already been previously released as singles. For a lot of those, there are accompanying music videos that are all absolute must-watches.
When they drop singles, they put a lot of time and effort into the visual aspect of it so that, not just the message, but the energy gets across the right way.
A great example of this is also the new single, and title track "Bleed Hope", which has a great music video that gives you some flashy kind of visuals and spreads a bit of love.
This was a fun one and possibly one of my favorites.
Others like "Living Dead for A Paycheck" are also really fun but showcase an ironic sort of haunt as the video showcases zombies running around in an office building.
So, they take the aspect of how we're all zombies walking around working every day just for a paycheck to continue living, and they add some humor to it.
The video showcases even more of that with those zombies running around the office building.
There is always a range of emotions that come with records by this band. They play off of real life and are able to give certain aspects of life spins that you wouldn't expect.
"Back To Yesterday" delivers an incredible drive with super addictive vocal melodies that always have a great energy.
That's one of the bigger aspects of how this band does their thing, too. There's always an incredible mind-blowing energy because the way that they record their stuff is, maybe not unusual these days, but a bit different than you might think when listening to the record initially.
Most of the band members are in different places. They send each other their tracks so that the next one can build off of them.
It's such an incredible way to make a record, and especially one that feels like it's all done live, right there in a room together.
That aspect alone, to me, is one of the more impressive ones.
How they can gather this energetic, live-performance-style aesthetic without being in the same room boggles the mind.
This just goes to show the true love for the craft that the transits hold. They are in love with what they're doing, they're never going to stop, and all the music and videos showcase that very well.
Other outstanding tracks include the closing single, "Youth Puppets", along with "Dancing With Shadows", aside from some of the songs I've already mentioned.
You will clearly and quickly see how the lyrics of these tracks dig into real life and aren't afraid to showcase some of the inner thought that comes it.
It is a very unafraid record; it can be a bit vulnerable, but super relatable.
This was a huge album spanning almost 45 minutes, and I would suggest you listen to the whole thing straight through.
This blends alternative, punk, indie rock, and electronic rock all in one shot.
Everything is very well placed, and the energy is completely Unstoppable from the first track to the last.
There are plenty of surprises around the corners of this record, and you don't want to miss any of them.
After you check this album out, I definitely suggest going to their YouTube page to check out the new video for "Bleed Hope", along with a slew of other videos they've already released in the past few years.
Don't miss this.
Remember where you heard it all first.
