A fresh single release from the *untitled brings out a high-energy and edgy blend of pop-punk, emo, and alternative rock by mending the three together seamlessly and giving you massive guitar riffs, driving but very melodic vocals, and drumming that just thrashes out and boosts that energy level through the roof most of the time.
The drummer of this band completely understands the mission, and doesn't just deliver something that sits in the pocket well, but instead adds this crazy liveliness that I feel like the rest of the band pushes off of.
This whole track feels almost like a live performance, mostly because of that energy. It feels almost like these guys recorded it in one room together with everyone involved feeding off of each other, creating that synergism that makes it feel almost unstoppable.
The track has a slight swing kind of rhythm to it, and the whole thing comes through insanely robust and with a sort of anthemic approach and aesthetic.
This is kind of a sing-along, fists in the air rock banger, and it does beckon those early 2000s emo bands that always came through with an amazing heaviness at the same time as displaying emotion and something authentic.
The track is called "disappear", and it absolutely boasts as much catchiness as it does edginess. It has a bit of color to it, especially in the main riff, but it still is super heavy at the same time.
Now, the track definitely still boasts a lot of punk rock, and that comes through in the attitude, the vocal approach, and the undertone of rambunctiousness in the entire feel of the track.
It's not gritty or dirty like classic punk rock, but more updated, still with the right attitude and this aggressive element that peeks its head out.
During the verses, you get really catchy vocal melodies, and when the chorus comes around, that's where it becomes even more powerful. Vocals start to harmonize, and that whole hook sticks in your head for hours or even days after the song has ended. The only way to satiate that is to go back and listen to it again.
These guys definitely know how to write a song with that hint of pop sensibility, which again comes through in the chorus and the hook, but they also know how to deliver this huge sonic presence that feels sort of thriving.
Before the last verse and final, full-throttle style chorus, there's a great bridge section where there's an addictive progression that gives you surprising changes, and some excellent guitar work. It's not exactly a lead solo per se, but it gives you pitch harmonics and other edgy technical guitar work that has soul to it, but also adds to the alternative element of the song overall.
This whole thing was such a brilliant blend of those genres. All of them are so incredibly evident throughout the entire thing. The emo, the alternative heaviness, the pop-punk element coming through all over it, it's all rolled into one track damn near perfectly.
I grew up listening to all of this kind of stuff, and this song sounds like the kind of track that you would hear on the radio, circa 2007.
You can tell there's a slew of influences that the band holds close to their heart, and I feel like they were all able to put those into the single in different ways.
I feel like a person who is into My Chemical Romance would love this as much as a person who's into Blink-182.
They cover that spectrum amazingly.
Of course, those are just influences, and these guys spin it to make it their own, but that warm sort of almost nostalgic familiarity makes it even better for someone like me who grew up through those eras in rock music.
Now, as far as I can tell, this single should be part of an upcoming EP to be released this summer.
I certainly can't wait to get my hands on this one, but this single will keep me at bay for the time being.
Don't miss this one, and don't forget where you heard it first.
