A new single from Matt DeAngelis comes through with a beautiful honesty that has a way of coming through with a warmth that wraps itself around you and with that comes a robust character that you find yourself getting attached to quicker than anything else.
"Free At Last" is a touching single with a wonderful message that I think a lot of us need to hear at one time or another and right now seems like as good a time as any.
The track focuses on the fact that life can be amazing, and you can create things with it when you want to and this is something that a lot of people including myself, tend to miss out on because we look past it too often.
A lot of us are focused on the struggles or the problems of our lives and not enough on the positive factors and how beautiful life can actually be.
The important thing about this is that it has a lot to do with your perspective and this track does such an amazing job of pointing that out in a subtle way.
Musically, the song is gorgeous and has a wonderful way of building into something bigger and even cinematic towards the end where there are string sections that come into the track.
It's an acoustic, singer-songwriter single that focuses on a little bit more of a stripped-down undertone for the most part with acoustic guitar and vocals, but those vocals are what you want to pay attention to because not only they performed with passion but that's what sends this message.
After a short time, you have more of a full band effect coming in. I think it's by the second chorus that everything really becomes full-bodied but it's a little bit later when the strings come in and start really adding this layer of atmosphere to the song that pushes the emotional drive even further.
One of the things that I loved about this track is the positive honesty about it because Matt doesn't hold back in terms of his realization that life is beautiful, and I think that a person may have to experience certain things to get to that place and maybe Matt has.
This song feels like it could have been cathartic for the artist to create, and release because to the listener it can change that perspective in a heartbeat and if it can affect someone like that, even one person, then the song is doing its job.
Creation is the premise behind this song in a way because it's about how we can create our reality and create our perspective, and although there are things that we cannot control about life, there are things that we can and it's up to us what we decide to do with it and how we decide to look at it.
This was very impactful and had an almost live performance energy to it in a way that I enjoyed.
The music video accompanying the single does an amazing job of showing Matt's presence as an artist and you become more attached after watching it.
This release speaks volumes from Matt DeAngelis and the performance and songwriting have heart, and this may be the most important aspect of it all because we need this in music.
We need songs that speak to us, change our perspective, make us think, or make us feel.
Definitely take some time to listen to this track when you get a chance because there's no way you're going to regret it.
