A brand new single release from star embassy delivers a wonderful crossover of genres that blend and mend elements of hip-hop, pop, R&B, dream pop, and more, all rolled into one flowing single that presents a vast soundscape and cinematic undertone.
"Somebody Else" is clearly a song with some emotional backbone, telling a pretty detailed story that feels relatable lyrically and comes from a personal space, giving it this authentic tonality and approach.
While you get pulled into the lyrics of it, you are also invited to float alongside this spacious and brilliant atmosphere that it provides.
The track is built with fresh hip-hop beats and vocals that are riddled with auto-tune at times, giving it that sort of edgy hip-hop aesthetic, but it also has a lot of that emotion built into the song, so you're getting wonderfully placed synth pads that create that distance to feel and build a cinematic tone that the song delivers.
The combination of the emotional build, along with how it bends genres at free will, is pretty brilliant and one of the things that I love most about it.
The honesty and storytelling that comes from the lyrics again comes from such a personal place that it feels a little bit connective, and this is also part of what makes the song so addictive. It is brimming with character, and this is one of the things you get attached to.
This is a track built with fewer boundaries than you may be used to. There are more than a few surprises around its corners, and it presents such a lush and thick laid atmosphere that you can't turn away from it.
I love the layers of dreamy textures and tones that are always there. It's those elements that wrap themselves around you and let you sort of swim through this track.
The vocals have a freshness to them. They're riddled with swagger and definitely packed with that brilliant character, but the way that they're performed is really a part of why the song feels the way it does.
There's a hint of vulnerability here. It's something that lets the track feel a bit youthful and its approach, and this is absolutely a song that speaks volumes for the project.
It's amazing to me how a track like this can feel edgy but still so ambient and vast at the same time. That kind of production is outstanding, and it's the aesthetic it builds that you want to soak in with headphones on.
Listening to this track with headphones lets you take in all of these brilliant layers that are going on as the song unfolds.
The accompanying music video for the track also showcases some of the duo's presence as artists and how they're able to keep that youthful approach but build in that authentic emotion while staying fresh.
Being able to put something together like this is amazing to me. The way it has such a massive pull. It's got a heaviness to it, a sullenness, and honesty, and a spaciousness that is rarely achieved, especially when blending Hip Hop and soul, Indie pop and dream together.
This is a song unlike a lot that you've heard before, but that blending of genres is the future of pop music, and star embassy is at the helm right now.
The project is a Danish duo producing their own brand of alternative pop and it works amazingly.
They're approach to producing music, creating bountiful emotion, and fresh approach to songwriting is a bit rejuvenating and very impressive.
Take a deep dive into this trike as soon as you can, and again, listen with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to do it.
The track is the latest in a string of singles released in the past few years. I suggest listening to their previous releases, especially if you're digging this one.
Take a deep dive into star embassy, and remember where you heard it first.
