A Brooding But Honest Single from Tyler Ellis

A beautifully performed and harshly honest new single from Tyler Ellis has just been released, and it delves into dealing with difficult emotions, past regrets, and plenty more in the form of drinking.

The track digs pretty deep and comes through as heavily personal, but that's part of why it works. It's the honesty and truths that he's singing about that really make this rich with character.

Drowning your sorrows and regrets in alcohol is a common thing, and I feel like it's been quite some time since I've heard a track that was so open about that aspect.

The single is all about drinking in order to deal with life. As I said, this is quite a common thing and a difficult one to get out of.

The way Tyler holds little to nothing back is impressive to say the least. It definitely takes a bit of bravery to let loose in this manner and let so much inner thought come out.

There are no walls built around this, especially lyrically. That's why you get attached to it. You can understand and relate to it almost immediately.

Yes, it's a sad song, but that's part of life. I think the best art out there is created from some sort of pain.

I also feel like it does take guts to describe those kinds of emotions the way Tyler does on this track.

"Late In The Evening" has a sort of classic folk feel, stripped down for the most part. Acoustic guitars and vocals take the stage, and the performance feels sullen and genuine.

It definitely seems incredibly authentic, which is part of why you connect with it on such a deep level.

He's saying things that a lot of us think about but just push off to the side.

It's late in the evening, and he's hitting the bottle to cope. That's definitely something I was able to relate to.

As the song unfolds, you start hearing Southern tones with lap steel that floats through the track and gives it a little bit more depth, bringing it to a country or Americana style, but not over the top.

Even with the lap steel adding that Southern feel, the song, to me, feels very classic folk.

I can hear so many amazing influences coming through as I listen to the single. Everything from classic country artists to Bob Dylan.

The most important thing is the level of personality that it gives off. The brutal honesty about being unsettled. The frustrations and sorrows of where life has taken you, the paths that you've chosen, the state of the world or the country, and everything else can be overwhelming.

I think it's obvious to say that this is a drinking song.

Tyler Ellis is an artist who certainly is not afraid, in general. He always gives pieces of himself in his music and puts himself out there in such a unique and powerful way that it becomes impactful.

The level of emotion that shows throughout this track is pretty impressive. Even though the emotion is general regret or sadness, frustration, or again, just being unsettled, it's real.

That's what counts here.

This is the type of song that feels like it's been on the radio for decades. Again, influenced by classics, giving off a semi-vintage set of tones with those acoustics and lap steel, and the vocal approach has a lot of emotion behind it as well.

Listening to the song feels like he's given up. So he was able to really portray that in the performance amazingly.

Because of all of those elements, the song comes through exactly the way it was intended.

The sentiment is loud and clear, and the emotion is robust.

This is a song that will stay with me for sure, and I suggest you take a listen to this, especially if you love folk, country, Americana, singer-songwriter, or any kind of music that lets you feel something.

That's what it's meant for. You're supposed to listen to this and understand, relate, and feel.

Listen to it with headphones on as well. This way you can really take in not just the lyrics but also the emotional backbone of it all.

As far as I can tell, this track may be part of an upcoming LP getting released by the artist in June.

If there are more songs like this one, I am all in.

I want this level of honesty.

The single will keep me at bay for sure, but I have high hopes for the record.

Take a deep dive into this one and swim through this experience.

Remember where you heard it first.
