Scarecrowz Drop A Gritty but Catchy Heavy Rock Album

An album release dropped from Scarecrowz comes through with an amazing crossover of grunge, metal, alternative rock, and hints of hardcore, as the guitars give off a fierce approach and distortion, the drums portray some serious drive, and the entire record is built off of thriving energy that you can feel in your bones when you listen to this thing.
The album is dubbed Husk, and it certainly doesn't waste a lot of time with the first track, "Clutter". Which comes right in with an addictive guitar riff that's performed in octaves, one high version and one with a lower register. And it lets the album come in with a massive intro.
The drummer just destroys right from the get-go. You can tell that this is not a drummer that's going to just sit in the pocket and hang back. This is a drummer that's going to add electric energy to the entire record and as the album unfolds, you can clearly hear a lot of the rest of the band pushing off of that.
The guitar work and riffs on this track alone portray some of that deep-rooted hardcore and grungy attribute, and you can feel this synergy between the members of the band.
The vocalist comes in with some animated approaches, building off of melodic drive and giving you what feels like an almost theatrical sound.
This, of course, fits amazingly with the instrumentation because everyone is up on that same level of intensity.
They throw a little Swagger into the mix on this track, and I love how they perform with such heaviness but a bit of soul as well.
"On & On" is one of my favorites on the record because this one has a little bit of a sludgy feel. It still has that metal overtone and approach, but it's got a slower pace, and the riffs are super deep. It reminds me of doom rock or even stoner rock at times.
At this point in the record, you begin to get a grasp on some of the band's many influences, from that doom rock era to classic metal, and all the way up through a bit of 90s alternative grunge. It all comes together like puzzle pieces, and they showcase how they can branch out with these different styles and embed them into their music throughout the entire release.
"Mega-Bitch", yes, you read that right, is an absolute banger that definitely showcases the band's sense of writing classic hard rock-style tracks but with that added extra heaviness involved.
The guitars are sort of trudging; they have a crunch to them, and the song displays a closed-fisted aggression that comes through powerfully.
As the record plays through, you get the sense that they've been doing this for quite a while. The songs flow seamlessly, have endless energy, and they're always in attack mode, but they also know how to throw some pop sensibility in there.
What I mean is, the songs are memorable and catchy. They still have all the brutal heaviness of what a massive rock band should, but they also display some of those catchy and anthemic-style choruses that stick with you.
Some of these songs are fist-in-the-air sing-alongs, if you ask me.
I have to love a record with crowd-pleasing bangers on it as this one does.
"Degeneration" is a track that tells a bit of a story that's easy to follow along with because the lyrics can be really descriptive and detailed at times, helping you paint a picture as the song unfolds.
This is also an example of a track where the vocalist follows along with those riffs really well, so the melodies and hooks get embedded in your brain.
This is also a super smart move because you find yourself humming some of those melodies in your head after the album's over.
The whole record displays a lot of this powerhouse style, heavy-handed songwriting, and it works great for these guys because they have the energy to put it out there correctly.
The full album is 10 tracks and spans just over 45 minutes in length.
It certainly gives you plenty to chew on, and for anyone who loves deep, heavy, memorable guitar work, this is the band for you.
Scarecrowz have been releasing records since 2001, and there are loads of songs throughout that catalog that are amazing.
It is super fun to listen to their evolution as a band, starting from back then up until now.
I feel like Husk is a perfect blend of their influences indeed. It takes a lot of the classic, driving metal and lets the alternative and grunge bleed out of it. The drummer is absolutely insane from start to finish and definitely lets the songs come through powerfully, but again, everyone is in that same zone.
It feels like these guys write songs together. Someone comes in with a great guitar part, and then the song just evolves from there.
The singer is outstanding, and the bass guitar work doesn't just bring a low end to everything. It does its own thing and follows the right areas of riffs when it needs to, but goes off on its own other times.
The whole record is blistering fun, and it's meant to be listened to nice and loud.
I would definitely suggest checking this out from start to finish, all the way through, in one shot.
You don't really want to skip around because there are some surprises throughout the record that you don't expect coming, plus, most of it is all killer, no filler.
After digging into the album, I wanted to have a chat with the band to find out where it came from and what might be coming up next for them.

Hello guys! Thanks for taking some time with us today! Let's kick things off with the Husk record!
What is the album about and how did it all come about?
The album is 10 rocking tracks that takes you along for a ride like a rollercoaster. Heavy, soft, up and down! After our last record came out in 2021, the guys were itching to work on new material since the pandemic was still happening so we did that in 2022. Our bassist left that year, but we carried on doing demos and eventually recording finished by end of 2024 including hiring a new bassist, Trevor St. Peter. After some mixing, mastering and editing happened in Winter/Spring 2025, the album finally was released on 6 June 2025. D-Day so to speak.
Do you guys write songs together, or is there one person who usually writes and brings it to the rest of you?
We write in all different ways. Sometimes on our own, sometimes together. Sometimes a part is brought in and someone or the band will help move it along. There is no rhyme or reason to the writing. Ger usually writes the bulk of material lyrically and musically.
Did you record this at a big studio, or do you have a DAW setup?
No. We did it ourselves. We have been doing that with the last few albums. We priced out studios but they are not within our budget so collectively we put our skills to the test and figured out how to do it. We recording alot of the material at our rehearsal area, Jam Barn Studios, but we also did some at Trevor’s place and Reno’s house too.
How did you all meet and start a band together?
Oh this goes way back. The band formed in 2000 with the idea to play modern hard rock with a classic rock feel. Been doing that ever since. We’ve had many band members come and go for various reasons, but the mandate is still the same. High energy rock music and performance. The current lineup consists of Ger Madden – Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar; Trevor St. peter (now on lead Guitar, vocals), Kevin Tysick – Bass Guitar, Vocals and Todd Campbell – Drums, Percussion.
Did you have an outside producer on this album, or was it all you guys?
No, we produced it ourselves. Again, the band has been DIY pretty much since 2015. When we did demos we reviewed the work and decided on changes before the professional recording was done. Even after, some last minute stuff had to happen. We had a fill in bass player for a time between 2024-2025 actually who did bass on one song on the album.
Can you guys give us some of your music influences?
Too many really but Kiss, Metallica, Nickelback, Pink Floyd, The Police, Rush to name a few…
What would you say people can expect from this release?
Well, since it’s been out over a year now, it was more of the same. Perhaps, maybe this album had a bit more heaviness on some tracks then the previous effort. Hard to say when one is looking outward. The reception has been good. Degeneration and Scream Cycle have done particularly well on some charts.
How long did the album take you to write and release?
As mentioned we started writing in January 2022. We started doing demos that fall since we were trying to record ourselves without trying that before. The demos were finished in 2023 and the professional recording started in January 2024. We have had starts and stops including losing some of the recordings due to technical issues as well as some absences (Our guitarist was on vacation a few times with family).
Are you working on more new music now?
This year we are focusing on shows because we didn’t get to do that last year. We have started to gather some ideas and begun work on them, but that won’t take much precedence until the autumn when the tour winds down. We will have to see when the next record comes out but looks like there is plenty of material to choose from.
Are you guys touring or performing live shows?
Yes, as I said, this year is focused on shows. We also have some new Merch this year from Shirts, Caps, Toques and Patches for shows to sell.
