ET Boys are back, and this time they bring forth this sort of bubblegum pop approach, complete with so many grade levels of instrumentation that come together but don't clash, instead complement each other, giving the record this robust and very colorful, pop-coated feel.
This single is endlessly danceable, intensely fun, and super addictive. They really deliver loads of vocal hooks, even in the verses, and the entire thing hits like whiplash.
I love how they can blend this high energy level with a certain kind of softness at the same time. This track isn't through the roof intense; instead, it's just something you can get up and dance to. It's very heavily melodically based, and they bring in all kinds of amazing keys and synthesizers to brighten it up and add all this flavor to it.
At certain points, you hear a sort of chiptune-style synth come in, and with the other keys laying different melodies, you have these layers coming through that just give you a very lush sort of pop soundscape.
Those vocals, always giving them a lot of cooks, constantly adding character and personality to the track, certainly help everything hit right.
The main riff of the song is a synthesizer, and it's kind of an old-school one. It's got this 90s synth tone to it. This is also accompanied by electric lead guitar sections that come in and play a little hook, too.
The combination of the digital and natural, electric instrumentation really brings a unique approach to the song, but that's the style of this group.
This track, as well as others, is a genre-bender. It doesn't glue itself to one style or genre exactly. Yes, as I said before, it's heavily pop-coated. It's a dance pop single that's hard, but the way they bring in the vocals and guitars makes it a bit unique.
These guys always branch out in different directions, and when they do, you get a new track that has a lot to chew on. This is a perfect example of exactly that.
All kinds of little breakdown sections happen where the drums are pulled out and then put back in. That beat is really straightforward, kind of four on the floor style, and it's got an upbeat tempo.
It's not exactly hyper, but it's energetic.
At certain points, they also go into halftime with that beat, giving it a heavier feel. I love when they do stuff like that because it just showcases again how they don't glue themselves to one style or approach.
They don't write songs with boundaries. It's sort of boundless, and I love that. I feel like ET Boys have almost always been slightly ahead of the curve.
They're always dropping tracks that you need to listen to three or four times to really soak in fully.
This track is one of those. The reason I said it hits like what Whiplash is because it's only 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
Now, that's 2 minutes and 45 seconds of fun, push back the couch and dance around the living room, electro pop aesthetic, but when it's over, you almost immediately want to just replay it.
A lot of their tracks have that attribute.
Now, as colorful as this song was, again, these guys are going all different directions depending on their mood and what they feel like writing at the time.
I'm sure they have a flurry of influences under their belt that they hold close, and they're always utilizing those to create something refreshing.
I would definitely suggest checking out a bunch of their other releases, as they are constantly dropping singles, sometimes blending in hip-hop, other times blending in rock, and it's just endless in terms of the diversity of how they write their music, but it always has that amazing pop sensibility attached to it.
The new single is called "that's all I wanted (microdose zyzz)", and you don't really want to miss out on this one.
After you check it out, go through their catalog of releases on Spotify so you can see what I mean about how diverse they are and how their approach is always evolving.
Remember where you heard this first.
