A Different Kind of Valentine's Single from Yellow No.5

Yellow No.5 just released a new single that reaches into the depths of pop rock and serves as a sort of breakup track, just in time for Valentine's Day, and with enough charisma to catch your ear.

This single showcases how the band is able to really portray a good depth of honesty while keeping things super catchy at the same time. This song really pops and has a great rhythm to it, and the guitar work is so bright, colorful, and not without its edginess either.

"Be Mine" is a bit of a Valentine's anthem of a different kind. It is indeed a breakup single, and I think about 50% of us could use a track like this rather than a standard Valentine's rock single.

This track doesn't need hit elements of pop-punk along with the rock, hints of oral alternative heaviness, and sort of anthemic style vocals, which I really enjoyed. This is kind of a fist-in-the-air, sing-along style rock banger, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the biggest attributes of this track is the drumming. The drummer just thrives throughout this whole thing. He brings a sort of life to the track, and it feels like a lot of the rest of the band feeds off of that, which is amazing. A lot of this single boasts radio friendliness, as I could certainly hear this on any kind of major rock radio station across the country.

It's got that hook coming from both vocals at the chorus, and loads of guitar hooks as well. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of layered guitars that sort of bounce off of each other and then intertwine at different parts of the track, which I adored.

Some cool breakdown elements happen later out of the song as there's a bit of a bridge that leads back into that main riff, which, by the way, is really addictive, and has that heavy pop coating to it again, bringing a certain brightness and flavor.

The way the lyrics come across can be a bit descriptive, which is something that helps push the song along and get that sentiment to cross. Again, it's a bit of a breakup single, so you can hear elements of heartbreak in there, but there's also a sort of Spirited undertone at the same time.

You can tell there was a lot of thought that went into the arrangements in the progression; there's a great formula to have this track come across that keeps it refreshing almost the entire way through.

That bridge element with the guitars goes clean before it comes into the main riff again was brilliant and also gives you an idea for how the band can intertwine honest commotion and thought with a perfect amount of edginess while blending that colorful pop aesthetic all at once.

The track was quite addictive and comes just before the band sets off for a pretty thick tour spanning across Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Texas, and more.

I'm going to go ahead and put the tour dates below so you can check them out in case you're in town for one of their next ones.

While you do check that out, absolutely play this track. Listen to it nice and loud, and you can hear all the elements I'm talking about.

This is a high-energy single that came across exactly the way it was intended.

The vocalist is outstanding at really portraying some of the different emotions that are involved with the track, including hints of aggression, which is totally normal for breakups.

While you're at it, you should also check out their EP released last year called Vacant Star.

The EP gives off a little bit of a heavier feel at times, including the main single "Rat Race", which kicks the whole record off.

Still, even this record boasts plenty of radio friendliness and elements of punk in its underbelly.

I would start with "Be Mine" and then move straight into this record because if you like this single, you're going to like a lot of their other releases.

Either way, dig right into this because if you're someone who has recently gone through a breakup, this is your Valentine's Day song.

Remember where you heard it first.
