Yes Nanny Drops A Garage Punk Banger

A new single release from Yes Nanny recently dropped and this track definitely has an amazingly gritty garage punk feel to it with a righteous attitude and a damn near perfect sonic drive that really helps push this track to exactly where it needs to be.

"The Other Ones (Demo)" in my opinion, shouldn't even be called a demo because the approach and aesthetic of the song calls for a slightly lo-fi style recording.

This track feeds off that sort of punk rock energy, and the way it was recorded doesn't sound like it came out of Geffen Records, but it fits perfectly for the style of the track itself.

The slight rawness of the tone is perfect because of the heavy rawness of the energy, and those two things go together like peanut butter and jelly.

The soundscape and presence of this track is damn near perfect and it has a thriving and endless feel, spirit, and edginess that all comes with a personality you can't turn away from.

That may be one of the things that caught me with this track. It has character attached to it, and that's something that you don't get often, so when it comes along, it's kind of refreshing.

Now, I grew up with all kinds of different punk rock, garage rock, classic rock, and more. This single alone manages to mend all of those styles together and they do it with a little bit of dirtiness and grittiness that gives it that extra Edge, but that's exactly what they're going for.

The guitar tone is amazing. It is heavy and a little bit thrashy, but it's playing a great progression while the drums are just smashing away, and the entire thing gives you the vibe of a live performance.

Perhaps this track was even recorded live on the floor so that everyone could feed off each other's energy while they were recording it.

I wasn't there, so of course, I'm not sure, but listening to this makes you want to go see them perform it live, simply because if they can capture this kind of energy and aesthetic on record so well, then seeing them live must be awesome.

I absolutely adore listening to a band for the first time on a record and knowing immediately that they're going to be killer in a live performance setting.

The vocalist is a total powerhouse from beginning to end. She belts out with attitude, swagger, and a unique vibrato at times that beckon that vintage punk approach.

However, as I said before, this is not just a punk rock song. It blends that punk tonality with a garage rock feel, grunge, classic rock colors, and more.

This song is a perfect blend of color and edginess, if you ask me.

You can tell this was done by a group of people who have a love for their craft, and when I say that, I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing songs together that really thrive and show their presence as a band on record.

Again, something you don't get often.

One of the things that hits me is those influences. I can't help but wonder about the different bands that helped create a song or even a band like this.

The punk side of the influences sounds classic, old school, and vintage. But you also have bands like The Stooges in there, along with '90s punk like Tsunami Bomb, for example.

The grunge side of the influence is obviously more 90s-based, and I love how the drums come in with this sort of rolling snare that helps really build up into the massive and climatic elements of the track.

All of this was really well thought out, and of course, there was plenty of attention to detail in the arrangement of the song, but again, it never loses the heart, excitement, or personality that it starts with in the first place, and that may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.

On their Bandcamp page for the release, they explain that the song is about celebrating the strength and resilience of women when they are pushed to the edge, which was inspired by the TV show Yellow Jackets.

This is an excellent show by the way.

You can feel that spirit and resilience in the song itself.

It has been quite some time since I've heard such a banger of a track with that raw energy embedded in its veins, and Yes, Nanny pulls it off without a hitch.

Most definitely check this track out as soon as you can and don't be afraid to turn it up because that's how it was meant to be heard.

This is a fist-in-the-air sing-along from start to finish.

Remember where you heard it first.
