YASSiN & Sean Terrio Are Back With a Warm New Summer Single

One of the things I love about when YASSiN & Sean Terrio get on a track together is that I know I'm going to get something welcoming, warm, and tonally engulfing in the best ways possible.

The new single, "Time Alone", is absolutely no exception to that rule. This is a track that features acoustic and electric instrumentation, it's got colorful and vibrant hooks, but still comes through with this soothing and almost smooth, and inviting approach, and somehow just feels like a summer song.

The track is a combination of what some would consider contemporary pop, commercial pop, indie-pop, soul-pop, and more, but as you can see, it's all under that pop umbrella.

It is a song that's got a natural flow, and it feels amazing to listen to because it invigorates you with this spirited sort of positivity, and within those walls, you also have a little bit of a romantic undertone.

It's almost like a love song, and it does have a great little drive to it; it's upbeat, but it also has this beautifully sort of vast undertone to it.

I also really dig how these guys always manage to pull together elements of vintage, classic, and almost 80s pop, and bring that into a very refreshing and current sound.

It's one of those things where you can hear some of the influences that these guys have, and I'm so happy they put their heads together for a new track because after the release of their Just Try album last year, I've been patiently waiting for something new.

This did not let me down in any way, shape, or form.

You have this vivacious sort of approach, loads of pianos hitting these deep root notes, but again, they're positive and bright, they are presenting all these layers of energy that the song pulls off and utilizes to exert out into the world.

There's something that is pulled from a real-life situation lyrically. You can really sort of relate to a lot of the lyrics that are happening in the song, and this gives you a sense of authenticity as you listen to it unfold.

These guys have done an amazing job of creating this unique but somewhat familiar pop atmosphere that you just want more and more of as you listen.

If you listen to this new single and love it, but haven't listened to the previous album, then absolutely do that.

There's so much to offer there as well, and this track does an amazing job of introducing you to their sound.

With the release of such a pungent and again, inviting new single, we got to have a chat with YASSiN to find out where the track came from and what's coming next for the guys.

Here's what happened.

Buzz Slayers: Let's talk about "Time Alone"! This was a very spirited and warming pop single. Where did this track come from?

Hello! Yassin here! This song came to us after a loooooong stretch of a creative block with Sean and I. After our album came out last year, we felt like we couldn’t come up with anything good for what felt like forever. Sean and I decided at the start of this year, we needed to change things up. So for the very first time we invited someone in to write with us. Our lovely friend Heather Janssen, who happens to be one of the best writers I know, came by the house for a writing sesh. As Sean was driving over to my place, he started beat boxing into his phone with inklings of a melody. When he arrived he played us the voice memo, and the melody was what you hear in the verses of this song. We quickly found the chords and all of the sudden an hour later, there “Time Alone” was!

Buzz Slayers: This was such a welcoming track! What are you performing on this song?

As usual with us, Sean is singing the lead and the 100 stacks of choir vocals you hear and I built up the rest of the production. Then we got our favourite session musicians to play the guitars and drums etc!

Buzz Slayers: This was a great follow up to your Just Try record! Are you guys going to continue working on new material together?

Yes! We have an EP on route and a few other singles coming down the pipeline! I’m sure we’ll be reaching out to you when the next one comes along!

Buzz Slayers: Do you both write the songs together or does one come up with most of it and bring it to the other? How does it work for you guys?

It is a mix of both! At the start I was bringing in all the songs, but as we grew together it has become very collaborative. Sean sometimes brings in a melody and some words, then I help finish it or vice versa. It changes from case to case, but these days Sean has come in with a lot of great ideas that I am able to bring to the finish line.

Buzz Slayers: I see you are going to be doing a bit of a tour soon! Where are you playing and when?

We just got back from the East Coast of Canada a few weeks ago and the next things we have coming up are big ones in Ontario! Over the August long weekend we’re playing the National Bank Open and Sean is singing the national anthem at the finals on August 7th! Then we’re up to Thunder Bay for a festival August 13 and THEN the CNE August 22nd! We can’t wait!

Buzz Slayers: What is next for you guys now?

We have so much going on, it's crazy haha. But, we are deep into the recording process of a bunch of new music. We’re working with new exciting humans on all of them. We’re still making a whole lot of new comedy content that keeps our audience happy AND I’m getting married in October! Busy times!

Buzz Slayers: Any new bands or artists you are into right now?

Role Model’s album has stolen my heart recently! Quinn XCII just put out a new album the other day that I’ve been obsessed with. Such relaxing, simple and musical production. There’s a song on there called Midwest Mona Lisa, and it SLAPS!

Buzz Slayers: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Fun, upbeat, uplifting and a whole lot of BIG sing along moments! We promise it won’t disappoint…Oh and a classic YST sax solo.

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

We’d just like to say that we’re so grateful for the love and appreciate every stream you’ve given us. This has been a long road as indie artists, and it’s felt like in the last year, people have really started to notice what we’re doing. Beyond that it’s made us appreciate the day one fans out there who have been listening since Take My Time! Thank you LOVE YOU!
