A Character Driven Single from Accidental Martyr Delivers A Blues Rock Aesthetic
A very addictive Blues Rock track from Accidental Martyr. It doesn't just deliver a single, but more a story itself.
This track is riddled with amazing guitar work and a heavy-handed blues overtone, with soul dripping from every note.
There's something about this performance that also sort of puts you in the moment with the music itself. It feels almost like it's a live performance, as if you're sitting there watching it right in front of your face. It brings out this one-on-one-style feel, and I like that because that's what all classic Blues did.
Back in the day, Blues was one man with an acoustic guitar, and that gave you the same kind of vibe.
Although this track is full band, they stick with that wonderful Blues approach and tonality, and in doing so, you still get some of that personal feel.

Now, this story is told through first-person perspective. He is the character in the song, and as it unfolds, you get to sort of soak in that character and what he's all about.
This is not a good guy. He's kind of a bad guy, and he goes around pushing boundaries and buttons, doing things he shouldn't be doing, even though he knows all about it.
He's not stupid by any means. If anything, he's a bit ignorant because he doesn't really care about the things that he's doing, even though he knows that he's wronging people and basically being that bad guy.
The whole track is about how this character knows, throughout all the things that he's doing, one day those actions will be the death of him. What goes around comes around, so to speak.
He's wronged too many people by this point, and he might run into one of them again. Or, he might do something new that will end everything.
The point is, he doesn't really care. He's going to keep doing what he's doing because that's all he knows.
I love how the song digs into this character and really gives you a thick persona throughout it.
It's completely relatable, and because of how the lyrics unfold, it's pretty cinematic as well. I feel like this is almost like watching a character in a film or even reading about one in a book.
You've gotten to the chapter about the bad guy who goes around doing things he shouldn't, and he knows it's going to catch up with him one day.
I love this aspect because you very rarely hear that almost theatrical lyrical approach. It's few and far between that you come across a song that digs into this character-driven element and really puts things in perspective so that you can completely understand everything that's going on.
A lot of the guitar work is super smooth, it's got a great tone to it, there's little hints of reverb giving them a little distance at times, and the drumming keeps that flow moving forward.
There are some great moments where the song opens up and gets a little heavier, with thicker Rock guitars, organs that come in and really fill up the song with a certain atmosphere, which, by the way, of course, is also a classic Blues attribute.
Organs are a classic move with a great Blues track. They add a little more soul to the music and somehow dig you a little deeper into the story as well.
This is cool because it's a song that you can tell a lot of attention to detail was given. There was a lot of thought that went into how this would unfold and play through.
If you're into cinematic blues rock, then this is definitely for you.
Now, if you're not too familiar with the workings of Accidental Martyr, this is a great song to introduce you to, but I have to tell you, they do branch off into different directions. I mean that in a completely good way, of course.
For example, I would absolutely check out "Why Be Lonely," as that song alone displays a completely different side to the songwriting and personas given off with their releases.
There are no two releases that are quite exactly alike, so I would say check this track out and then go through their back catalog to listen to more. A lot of this stuff has stories and emotion behind them, and portrays some outstanding songwriting on many different levels and the ability to sort of bend genres as well.
