Voltstorm Drop A Live Record

ree

A new album release from Voltstorm comes through with such a Relentless intensity that is damn near impossible to turn away from. The record is built off of the enthralling and electric energy of live performance and it showcases the bands heart and presence in that setting.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Voltstorm, this is a great way to introduce the band because not only are you getting some amazing songs, but you're getting that heavy-handed metal energy, and with a record of this nature, you're also gaining a lot in terms of character. The character delivered throughout these tracks is amazing.

The album is called Live Silence, and wastes very little time coming in with the first track "Destroyer", which hits with blistering riffs, guitar harmonies, thrashing drums, already delivering that high-impact energy level that you can expect throughout the rest of the record.

This song is an amazing one to introduce the album with because it gives you some of the best staples that the rest of the record will boast; however, listening to this full album is an absolute must to get the full spectrum of what it has to offer.

The band encompasses a number of heavy-handed genres under the metal umbrella, from thrash, hints of death, melodic, and plenty more. This record gives a lot, and skipping songs is not the way to go.

Songs like "Lamb" come in with a grueling bass guitar tone that just sounds massive, and while that's happening, you can hear the crowd and start picking up on the vibe and intensity of everything that's happening.

The bass line is bopping with a fierce heaviness, and everything starts following suit soon enough. The singer invites the crowd to join in, and everything just becomes gigantic.

One of my favorite tracks on this release, guitar-wise, is one called "Break The Silence". The guitar work on this track is just immense. It comes in wailing, crazy ref, and you can sort of hear the infectious energy that's coming through.

When you have a record like this, energy is key. This band gives such a perfect energy level throughout this entire thing. You really do pick up on that, and listening to this record puts you right there in the moment with them.

I loved taking this record in because it showcased a band that not only writes these amazing metal tracks but is able to perform them with a great tightness in a live setting, while still keeping true to the songs themselves, giving a heartfelt and boisterous show.

Now, when I say heartfelt, what I mean is that everyone on that stage has a real love for what they're doing at that moment.

They're having the time of their lives, and the crowd is picking up on that. The drums are slamming, the guitars are huge, the vocalist is a powerhouse, that bass guitar is just rumbling and rattling, and everything comes together like pieces of a puzzle.

This record has a ton of inventive and melodic tonalities and sections that portray and beckon everything from classic metal to thrash punk, and plenty more in between.

One of the biggest elements about this record is the combination of those heavy genres coming together seamlessly as it all unfolds.

The sound of the record is totally outstanding. You can hear everything perfectly. Everything is very balanced, and because of that, there's a certain aesthetic that the whole thing gives off.

I have to give props to the vocalist because he just gives it his all from beginning to end. Even the last track, "Evil Eyes".

He's there getting the crowd involved, calling out to them, having them chant along with the rhythm of the guitar riffs.

But everyone's like that. Every member of this band doesn't lose an ounce of energy, or so it seems, throughout the entire record. You get that same level of intense and fiery energy that comes through, delivering massive metal approaches and never letting up.

This is the true making of a great metal band. Being able to combine those heavy genres, deliver impactful live performances, and still come through with addictive songwriting and a connection with the crowd.

This is an album that you really need to listen to nice and loud.

For me, it was best with headphones on or driving in the car with loud speakers because it does indeed put you right there in the moment at the show. You can feel that intensity rising through.

If you dig this album, you should absolutely check out their 2024 release, Break The Silence, the studio album from which the live performance was based, hence the title Live Silence

There's a lot to dive into here, and the band has plenty more to listen to, including a self-titled EP from 2022.

After listening to the live record, we absolutely had to have a chat with the band to find out more. So, while you listen to this release, have a read through of the interview we conducted with the guys below.

Remember where you heard it first.

Buzz Slayers: Let's talk about the Live Silence record!! This was a killer record that displayed such a heavy handed approach to your live performances and the energy was unstoppable! What made you decide to put this together?

Thank you! Live Silence was born out of a moment that truly defined Voltstorm. The show was recorded at Hard Rock Hell Festival 2025, where we shared the stage with some of the legends we grew up listening to. It was the first time we played on a major festival main stage in the UK , and the energy was electric, raw, emotional, and completely unfiltered.

I remember standing on that stage at Hard Rock Hell, staring at the lights and thinking: this is what fifteen years of hunger sounds like!

We wanted to capture that feeling forever. After years of fighting our way up through clubs, and playing shows for next to nothing, it felt like the right time to document what Voltstorm had become  a band that earned its place through sweat, sacrifice, and sheer willpower. Live Silence isn’t just a live record; it’s proof that the fire never went out.

STEF NURRA

I give all the credit to John as he pushed to get this live record done and I am pleased to say it sounds fantastic. We all prepared for it extensively and the effort paid off. We wanted to show other festivals what we’re capable of and offer solid proof that we’re ready to take on bigger stages.

Buzz Slayers: I'm hearing a few different approaches on this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Our influences span generations of metal. I grew up on  Deep Purple, Dio, Iron Maiden, Queensrÿche, and Judas Priest, but I’m equally inspired by artists like Alice Cooper, Ian Gillan, and even classical and cinematic music. Vocally, I’m drawn to singers who tell stories performers with character and emotional range. Musically, we like to balance melody and power, much like bands such as Savatage or Queen or even more modern acts that fuse technicality with heart. At the end of the day, Voltstorm’s sound is about connecting old school spirit with new school fire and technique, it’s heavy metal with a heartbeat.

STEF NURRA

There’s a lot in the mix and I feel overall that all of us translate our favourite artists into something unique. I am into great 70s bands like Rush and Deep Purple as well as 80s acts like Van Halen or Megadeth and Metallica. At the same time, I love to listen to progressive dark stuff like Opeth, Mastodon, In Flames, In Solitude. So a lot of different elements, I generally love bands that stay away from formulaic and love to experiment and evolve in a rock/metal context.

Buzz Slayers: When did this all start for you as a band?

Voltstorm officially formed in 2019 in London, but the roots go much deeper. I started writing the first songs years earlier after moving from Trieste to England in 2012 to pursue my dream of making music.

Those first years were brutal. No label, no management, no roadmap just belief. I was working day jobs, writing songs at night, trying to find the right people to build something real. When Stef Nurra came on board as guitarist, the chemistry was instant. We shared the same vision, and from there we built everything by hand.

No silver spoon, no shortcuts. Every step was earned the hard way and I think that’s what gives Voltstorm its character. We weren’t given a stage, we fought for one. And we’re not done fighting yet.

Buzz Slayers: Is this album taken from a sting of different shows, or is it all from one performance?

It’s entirely from one performance, most of our set at Hard Rock Hell Festival 2025. We wanted authenticity. No overdubs, no patchwork.

What you hear is exactly what the crowd heard that night. There’s something special about capturing a single performance in all its imperfection and intensity. It's real, it’s alive, and that’s what metal should be.

It was a logistical nightmare because we don’t have roadies or a tech crew. We had to figure out how to set up, sound-check, and get ready to go in 20 minutes. Festival timings are brutal. But somehow, it worked. You can hear that determination on the record. The impossible, captured on tape.

Buzz Slayers: Were you guys able to mix the record to an extent? It sounds amazing!

Yes, absolutely. The album was mixed and mastered with the guidance of Alessio Garavello, who also produced our studio album Break the Silence. He knows exactly how Voltstorm should sound dynamic but natural. We didn’t want to polish the life out of it. Alessio helped us retain that raw stage energy the grit, the sweat, the adrenaline  while making sure the sound translates across speakers. It’s not “perfect.” It’s real.

Buzz Slayers: The live video for "Destroyer" was outstanding! Do you feel this is a solid representation of what people can expect for the album?

Definitely. “Destroyer” is pure Voltstorm aggressive, melodic, and full of tension and release. The live cut shows the chemistry between us and the crowd, the sweat, the movement, the connection. It’s a perfect window into what Live Silence represents: heavy metal in its truest form, played with heart and conviction.

We know touring internationally is tough for an independent band, so this release is our way of bringing the stage to fans around the world. If you can’t be there in person, you can feel it through the screen  and hopefully, it still hits you in the chest.

STEF NURRA

Thank you, I take care of many of the video related creations of Voltstorm and I loved the idea of creating something that might hint at the mood of the bootleg I used to get as a kid.

I remember going on Ebay and ordering random DVDs with bootleg performances from Deep Purple or Van Halen, which were all some poorly digitised VHS tapes. I wanted to get that vibe in the video, as if we were a band ready to knock your ears off in the glory days of heavy rock!

Buzz Slayers: Now that this is out, what's next for you as a band?

We’re heading into a massive 2026, supporting Tygers of Pan Tang and Demon on their UK tour. We’re also writing new material that builds on the energy of Live Silence heavier, darker, more anthemic. The goal is to keep growing, playing bigger stages, and bringing Voltstorm’s message of resilience and defiance to more people around the globe.

Buzz Slayers: Who's in all your headphones right now?

STEF NURRA

We all have different tastes so I don’t think we share the same artist in our playlist but that’s a good thing I believe. I played in bands before where every person was a fan of the same band and the band just ended up being a bit of a fan project. At the moment I have a mix of Mike Oldfield, Alice Cooper, Mastodon, In Solitude.

John Prasec

I am currently going through a Queen phase so greatest hits 3 and a kind of magic are sort of in demand on my playlists alongside Extreme ( Nuno is awesome !)

Buzz Slayers: This was a pretty big album! Was it a big undertaking? How long did it take to finish this?

It definitely was. From capturing the performance to post-production,marketing and packaging  it took about six months to get everything just right.

We were meticulous, because it wasn’t just about putting out a live record it was about marking a moment in Voltstorm’s story. Live Silence is proof that we’ve weathered the storm and emerged stronger.

Buzz Slayers: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Expect honesty. Expect energy. Expect the full weight of what Voltstorm is on stage no filters, no fixes true musicianship, blood sweat and tears.

It’s loud, emotional, and completely alive. You’ll hear the band as it truly is: passionate, defiant, and unrelenting.

And I can’t promise you one thing, this is not the last that you’ll hear of Voltstorm!

If you’ve ever fought for something, if you’ve ever refused to give up, you’ll hear yourself in this record.

Buzz Slayers: Congrats on this live record! What kind of advice would you give to any other bands trying to do something similar?

Do it for the right reasons. Don’t chase perfection, chase the truth. The magic of a live album is in its imperfections. If you capture a genuine moment of connection between the band and the crowd, that’s far more powerful than a flawless performance. Of course the performance has to be good so prepare well, play hard in the rehearsal room  and let the tape roll.

Buzz Slayers: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Voltstorm was built by people who believed when no one else did and that includes our fans. Every message, every show, every voice singing back the lyrics reminds us why we do this.

Voltstorm exists because of belief ours, and yours. Every message, every show, every voice shouting lyrics back at us means everything. Live Silence is for you  the believers, the survivors, the rebels, the ones who never gave up.

We’ve been through the noise, through the silence, through everything in between and together now we rise.
