The brainchild of esteemed musician Matt Soren, as heralded by his offspring, The One Tonic emerges as a fusion of anthemic electro-pop rock. With influences echoing the grandiosity of Muse and the infectious energy of Imagine Dragons, Soren infuses his own brand of chaotic charm, embodying the spirit of a dad navigating life with ADHD.
Upon stumbling upon this project, initially portrayed through wholesome family imagery on social media, expectations were set for a light-hearted sing-along affair. However, "Not Gonna Waste It" swiftly dismantles such preconceptions, opening with a sonic landscape reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails. The vocalist channels a whispering, ominous inflection akin to Trent Reznor, weaving a narrative that oscillates between darkness and gratitude, ultimately championing a seize-the-moment ethos.
While the track's musical elements exhibit moments of intrigue, it's in the song's climactic finale where its true potential shines. Here, The One Tonic delivers their most realized sonic excursion, leaving an indelible imprint upon the listener.
I thought this was a good song but have to admit the tone of this project felt a little confusing. My first thought was this was going to be a song for kids. "Not Gonna Waste It" serves as a testament to The One Tonic's ability to subvert expectations, offering a compelling blend of introspection and realization.
