If you aren't too familiar with the sounds of Sam Hankins just yet then let us be among the first two to introduce you and open you up to the world of this outstanding performer, and composer as he recently released a full LP with a string about standing singles that certainly bring jazz, funk, and more to the table.
Sam is an amazing performer, especially with the trumpet, and the new album, which is called Alright, lets him be free to do his thing in several settings and each of these songs showcases artistry incredibly well.
Sam managed to pull together many performers to collaborate on the record with him and it all came together outstandingly as the record has loads of color and spark.
This is no surprise if you check out some of Hankin's background because the artist has performed with tons of major players in the game including Aretha Franklin, the Dells, The Temptations, and too many more to even mention.
Funny enough, when the artist started it was a guitar that he first picked up, introduced to him by his father but later he changed over to trumpet, and everything changed.
Having learned more about Sam brings to my attention the fact that this album feels like a major culmination and the next step for the artist himself.
This album encompasses a great soul sound and everyone who played a part in the creation of it leveled up to make something very special.
Was such a heavy release it must have been a long time in the works. So where did the Alright album come from?
Sam explains; "This album has been a long labor of love throughout these past 3 years. Going through COVID has giving me lots to reflect on my life; the many challenges that I am faced with each and every day. I was going through a dark and rough time with the passing of my mother who was my rock, supporter and biggest fan in my life. She understood the many life challenges that a musician goes through having been married to one for over 30+ years before my father was killed in a car accident.
I started writing these tracks during COVID and then lost my mother during this time.
COVID was a trying period for me and also for many others in this world. I wanted to write what I felt at that time and to share a more positive message and sound to my fans with this CD.
I can hear my mother in my ear telling me to never give up, your time will come and never stop believing in yourself. This CD “Alright” means a lot to me because my mother has been with me throughout my music career making sure I keep my musical journey alive. Composing this CD called “Alright”, the title says it all. We are all going to make it through rough times, and it will be followed by good times. But remember things are going to be “ALRIGHT" in your life”.
Sam's performance and tone with that trumpet is certainly something to be heard so do yourself a favor and pop this album on.
You will not soon be disappointed.
