The Latest Album from Izzy Skinner Is Here

Writer: BuzzSlayersBuzzSlayers

Izzy Skinner returns once again with an outstandingly eclectic and honest LP that has such a lush and diverse tonality and set of songwriting that no two songs are alike. Throughout the unfolding of it all, you get super attached to her character and personality delivered this record.

Tangent is an album that wastes little time giving you some of that thick laid character with its first track called "Breakfast".

Not only does this song give you a little bit of a Tom Waits vibe, but it crosses into an almost garage pop feel with her vocals double or even tripled to really add that color and pop to the tone of everything.

This is a song that pulls you in lyrically because she's so honest and carefree about the entire thing.

You have tons of random inner thoughts spilling out during this track, and this is part of what gives her such massive character on the record.

Then you have songs like "Bad Day", which boasts a much more cinematic and vast tonality, using her vocals as instruments and giving that expansive feel and aesthetic.

There's something dreamy about songs like that one, and you get a glimpse of that throughout the record in her songwriting naturally.

Songs like "Grey Ballet" give you a theatrical tonality, and you have gorgeous violin sections accompanied by bopping acoustic guitars, and everything about it is attractive.

These are songs that give off color, charisma, and again, a lost personality that you end up really holding on to throughout this record.

There are definitely more than a few surprises around the corners and Izzy Skinner is someone who holds very little back when she's creating.

This is a damn near perfect example of an album created with fewer boundaries built around it then you may be used to.

Some people may not be as open to that as others, but for me, it was gorgeous.

This is a record that keeps you right where it wants to, and by the time you get halfway through, you start to expect the unexpected, which I find super refreshing.

There are a lot of textural and lyrical layers and depth to this album, and you have amazing performances on a multitude of instruments that really give this such a beautiful aesthetic but not without hints of realism and edginess everywhere.

If and when you dive into this record, I can only suggest to you that you listen to it from beginning to end in one shot.

This is by far the best way to do it, and you can check out a few songs on their own, of course, but that won't give you the full spectrum of what the album has to offer as a whole.

Once again, no two songs are alike, each song is like a different chapter, musically and lyrically.

There's a lot to hold on to, and if you listen to this record from beginning to end, you get an idea of where she's at in life and how she gives little pieces of herself in her music in different ways.

Once you are finished with this record, check out her previous releases, including last year's release called Haunting, which is a little different in certain ways but also bears some of the staple attributes of her songwriting.

Listen to this album with headphones on and do it in full so you get all the layers and moods soaked in properly.

This was a beautiful record from start to finish and showed so much of who she is as a person that it's almost addicting.

Remember where you heard this first.
