The Alt-Rock and Grunge Sounds of Summer of Peril

An album release from Summer of Peril delivers a massive and vast alternative rock tonality that blends into grunge and underground 90s rock bands which all gives it such an expansive and fiery backbone along with incredible sonic drive and something that just feels nostalgic about it like you've been listening to this record for years.

The HOMESICK album definitely doesn't waste much time giving you a glimpse of what's to come with the first track hitting hard and massive but, also with a melodic underbelly and that dark and edgy theme that the rest of the album boasts.

This record has a lot of layers to it and it's incredibly fun to peel those back as the record unfolds. There is no dead space on this record and there is actually quite a bit of emotional drive behind some of these songs, so you end up latching on to the personality and character that it all gives off.

There are definitely more than a few surprises around the corners, and this is the type of record that you listen to from beginning to end. Listening to a few tracks is okay to get a bit of a hint of what you can expect soundscape-wise, but it does not give you the full spectrum of what the album has to offer as a whole.

The energy levels are completely alive and breathing throughout this record and it feels like some of the songs, if not all of them, were recorded live on the floor to an extent at least so that the players involved were just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.

Even if I'm wrong about that aspect, and the record was not recorded live in any way, listening to this certainly makes you want to go see them perform it live in your face because if the energy is captured this well on record, then seeing them live would be intense.

You do get the vibe of a live band when you listen to this record. Like seeing them live would be an amazing show and that comes from that intensity and drive that the record boasts right from the beginning.

But again, there are songs that are more somber giving extra layers and different sides of the songwriting, there's even tracks that make me feel like the record has a cinematic backbone at times.

This is part of why the record has that vastness in its undertone.

The guitar tone itself is incredible and has an amazing distortion to it that lets you capture that edginess but also deliver that melodic aspect as well and the progressions come through smart and alluring so that the songs are actually quite addictive.

Growing up in the 90s and listening to bands like the Deftones, Tool, and other bands of that time, you get the same kind of feeling listening to this record as you do listen to those.

This album has a bit of its own sound, but you can still pick up on those influences shining through and this is part of why the record has such an amazing aesthetic to it.

It really does an outstanding job of capturing that 90's alternative rock feel that blends tons of different bands together to create an atmosphere that feels good to listen to you but also makes you think and feel.

The vocals come through in a grunge approach and I like that about the record a lot because the vocals also balance out the music very well and so when the music gets intense, so do the vocals a lot of the time.

Those two aspects have a connective sense and drive each other really well.

This was a killer album with a lot going on and again, warmth at the same time even though the record delivers a lot of hard-hitting edginess, a little bit of somber undertone, and emotion that makes this very authentic.

Check this record out as soon as you can and don't be afraid to turn it nice and loud.

Remember where you heard it first.
