Maeve McMahon Drops A Soulful Blues-Rock Powerhouse

ree

A new single release from Maeve McMahon delivers a unique but full-bodied breed of honesty, and the way she gets so descriptive with those details really paints a picture from her perspective and gives you loads of insight into a particular part of her personality, which really has such a vibrant feel that you can't turn away.

"Recklessly Blind" is about decisions. Sometimes you make good ones, sometimes you make bad ones, and sometimes you make reckless ones. This is all part of being alive, of course, and Maeve rolls the idea up into a track that paints such a great picture and one that's completely relatable to a lot of us.

One of my favorite aspects of this track is that it really rocks out. It's got a lot of soul, especially delivered by those vocals, but there's also a lot of soul packed into the guitar work, which is absolutely outstanding throughout the entire single.

There is a heavy-handed blues-rock feel throughout this one, and Maeve really nails that aesthetic down by delivering powerhouse vocals almost the entire time.

Keeping things a little bit more subtle during the verses but really bursting out into belting and impactful performances at those choruses, really just takes the song to a new level.

One of the reasons I'm so obsessed with the guitar work is that the guitars literally match that vocal intensity level.

The vocals and the guitars are on the same page this entire time, and it gives the song the feeling of being alive and breathing.

As a matter of fact, the whole thing actually feels almost like a live performance. It seems kind of like the whole thing was recorded live on the floor to an extent, and everyone involved with feeding off each other's energies the entire time.

Of course, I wasn't there, so I don't know how they did it, but listening to it makes you want to go see it performed live simply because, if they can capture this kind of aesthetic and energy on record, then seeing it live must be outstanding.

This track was completely awesome, and not only did it give so much thick personality, but it was honest. I think that's really what counts. She's really being open and slightly vulnerable, but in a fun way.

She's totally unafraid to just speak her mind on this one, and she does it with a lot of heart, and the whole song just comes through with massive drive through and through.

Right when the song opens up, you have some heavy-handed guitars with passionate vocals, oozing with that soul, so you already kind of know what you're in for.

When the drumming and the rest of the band come in, everything is already in full throttle, so you're really not waiting around for anything.

This is like a closed-fisted, soul-riddled, southern-rock banger that really leaves little to the imagination and does with style to boot.

There are a few sections where that guitar absolutely shreds, and even that has loads of bends and blues undertone to it!

My absolute favorite part of this song is right before that final chorus. The guitars are going off, and so is Maeve. It's like a battle, and that thriving energy is super infectious.

This is a track you listen to at a loud volume.

You'll likely be singing along with that chorus by the end, hands in the air, and just feeling the whole thing in your entire body.

The Massachusetts-based songwriter and artist has already been making waves with her previous EP Traffic Lights, which I also suggest listening to because it showcases but totally different side of who she is and her artistry as well.

You can still hear a little hint of Southern tonality in it, but it really brings out a little bit of a contemporary, experimental, and acoustic pop aesthetic.

This EP feels a bit cinematic, and it's underbelly, and she really goes in some different directions throughout it, but still keeps it firmly under that bright and warm sort of pop umbrella.

I would start off with "Recklessly Blind" so you can get things going with a big bang, and then check out some of her other stuff because it's totally worth your time.

This is an artist who is not afraid to put little pieces of herself into her music, make it fun, colorful, vivacious, and come through with an amazing attitude and artist presence.

Check this out right now and remember where you heard it first.
