A brand-new single release from Nick Edwards brings out a lush country tonality with a lot of heart engraved into its performance. He does an outstanding job of delivering such a rich and soulful tonality that you end up getting addicted to it after half the song has played through.
"The Devil & Me" really reaches into the soul and comes through with something that feels genuine and authentic by dropping honest and straightforward lyrics that hint towards some existentialism and what we've done with our lives and in a strange way has a celebratory undertone.
This track features UK country singer Jake O'Neill. The artist does an impressive job laying in his piece of the song. To me, it's an absolutely perfect fit, and the collaboration worked wonders.
The track is riddled with beautiful instrumentation, from lap steel to acoustic and electric guitar. The vocals are harmonizing and bountiful but performed with a passion that you can't turn away from.
Something about this track just reaches out and grabs hold of you. The whole soundscape wraps itself around you perfectly and keeps you right where it needs to as you become engulfed in the entire Sonic presence of this track.
You can definitely hear a lot of the emotional backbone built in and this gives the song a lot of presence but also personality and I think it's that personality that makes the song really thrive.
I feel like you get attached to the character given off in this track because it's so relatable to an extent.
You can tell this was greatly personal to Nick and having the idea to bring Jake into the track was a brilliant approach to change things up a little bit and still have a very impactful and bountiful tonality and sentiment that leaves a mark.
Nick Edwards brings a lot of classic country feel to the table with this song and you can hear that southern underbelly come through heavy-handed which helps build the atmosphere the song delivers. It also lets you get a little bit addicted to that emotionally driving performance.
There's something so real about this track that lets you connect with it in different ways and that soulful performance lets the song hit a certain way.
The whole aesthetic of this track is not only cinematic in a way but also feels like it might have been cathartic for the artist to write and release.
There's a lot of what I consider poetry in this song. There is plenty of inner thought coming out and the way it spills out of the music and lyrics really is quite impactful, to say the least.
This is definitely for fans of genuine country artists who bring the essence of vintage country songwriters because there's a lot of that old soul coming through. This is important when it comes to Country music.
This was a beautiful song that affected me when I listened to it and upon doing so I most certainly checked out some more from Nick Edwards. I can tell you right now, that there's plenty to dive into from EPs to live releases and everything in between.
I would definitely suggest starting with this new release and then going back through his catalog because if you dig this song, then you're going to really love a lot of his previous stuff as well.
Again, this is for true soul Country and Americana fans new and old.
Listen to this track with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to soak it in and remember where you heard it first.
