Mere Ritz Delivers A Soiree of Fresh and Spacious Pop Edge

A new single release from Mere Ritz delivers a completely refreshing and edgy alternative-pop tonality, blending in all kinds of other elements of sub genres from the pop world, in general. You get tons of vast undertone that breeds dream-pop vibes, along with a thick character throughout this track as well, and animated vocals that come through slightly bubbly but also with a bit of swagger.

"Hump Day" utilizes some amazing approaches with synth pads to create that spacious and deepening sort of atmosphere so that the track comes through almost cinematically.

It also brings in what sounds like guitars that give it an almost garage pop style, which was something I found surprising, but worked perfectly for the track itself.

Now, although it did sound like guitars, that's just because the tones were distorted with this great sort of fuzz tone feel, but they actually could be keys that were distorted as opposed to guitars. It's hard for me to tell because they sound so similar when put in this format, but either way, it works great.

The cool thing is that the distorted, fuzz riff is a key element in the song and gives you a musical hook, which is something you don't always get in music these days.

Even straight rock music is lacking musical hooks now. The choruses are always strong, as it is in this track, but she brings in that musical hook. That riff works wonders to add a layer of texture to the song that wasn't there before and helps it come through just slightly edgier.

What are the things I adore about this track is our actual approach to vocals. She double-tracks sometimes, and then others, it's just one single vocal track.

Her vocals get more intense as the song unfolds, so by the time it gets towards the later parts of the track, the vocals are a bit more vivacious and vibrant.

I love this growth because it works perfectly with the actual music that also sort of grows in intensity.

This was a very well-woven track, and I love how it blends elements of bedroom, dream, indie, and alternative pop while bringing in so much personality and color at the same time.

I feel like it was also done with a lot of attention paid to the details of the arrangement and how the song would actually unfold, but still had that youthful looseness to it that made it so addictive.

This was a unique track and, for me, speaks volumes for the artist because it showcases her ability to bring in so much presence to attract while blending and bending genres at free will, and creating something that was memorable and had its own atmosphere.

Upon listening to this track, I checked out a few others and was completely blown away.

Prior to this single there was one dropped called "Rodeo Clown" which does showcase some of the same Staples that "Hump Day" did but in a different manner.

This one was much more expansive to me. That spaciousness was massive, and you got engulfed by the soundscape of everything.

There were plenty of experimental synths and keys that came along with her wonderfully addictive and character-riddled vocals once again.

You can also tell that these songs are all based on real-life situations. They feel authentic, and so it feels like she's giving a piece of herself with these songs and telling her story in a way.

Another called "Fingertips" takes a bit of a different direction but still has this beautifully experimental and edgy tonality to it. She has so much fun playing around with sounds, and I look at Mere Ritz not just as a singer but as someone who can create scenes.

Her vocals and songwriting approach make things so vivid at times, and the songs are all completely unafraid, both lyrically and musically.

These tracks are created and built with fewer boundaries than what you may be used to.

They fall under that alternative pop umbrella if you ask me, but others might soak them in a little differently.

I absolutely fell for this artist from the start, and I'm eager to hear new music from her.

Listen to these songs with headphones on because they create such a lush atmosphere that you want to be able to soak everything in, and headphones are absolutely, hands down, the best way to do that.

Remember where you heard it first.
