Matt DeAngelis returns with a brand new single that breeds elements of intensity in the form of classic rock through and through. That is most certainly a fan of contemporary and classic rock and certainly draws influence from artists and songwriters of decades past. This new track is no exception to that rule.
If you are new to the music of Matt DeAngelis, this track is probably one of the best ways to introduce yourself. This is simply because the artist always gives little pieces of himself in his music, and this track also comes from a genuine place and sets out to describe inner thought processes and dealing with struggles and uncertainties in the best ways he knows how.
This is one of my favorite aspects, not only of this song, but of the artist in general. Being able to articulate songs to have a message that works for just about everyone. They are universal and come together with heartfelt performances that have weight and impact to them, hints of vulnerability, and simply being unafraid to put himself out there and be as expressive as possible with his music.
"Livin' It", is a great example of pretty much all of these things. The track sounds almost like a ballad that would have been released by John Elton back in the day. It's very piano-based, it's not afraid to hit the rock sections, it's got these big, robust style choruses that have impact, and again, the message is always loud and clear.
This is a track that, to me, speaks about uncertainties in life. It's just about the road we take in our lives, and in doing so, taking risks, being a little bit afraid, but still moving forward
Again, this is a very universal message, and it works for everybody because everyone has those kinds of thoughts.
We are all a little afraid of the future. We don't know what tomorrow or the next day will bring. We move forward and try not to hold on to what's already been or worry too much about what hasn't happened.
It's about the struggle of living in the now, even with all the uncertainty that comes with the unknown.
This is picked up easily because he's able to articulate lyrics in such a way that you completely connect or relate with him.
Songs like this humanize the artist. They let you remember that the person behind the song is just another person. He's in the same boat as all the rest of us, and for him to be able to express that in such a relatable theme is moving at times.
Now, again, the music is like a classic rock ballad. A power ballad, really. The track features some brilliant guitar work, including some lead sections that add a bit more of an alternative rock underbelly to the track, which is also something that is not afraid to do here and there.
Listening to his catalog of music, you can hear classic, alternative, Indie, and pop rock, but also folk, singer-songwriter, and hits of jazz here and there as well.
He doesn't hold back in terms of writing a song based on how he's feeling in that moment, and because of that, the song puts you in the moment as well.
This is one of my favorite tracks from the artist because his performance is sort of intense, but also graceful. It's got a beautiful tonality and vibrato; you can hear that everything is authentic, and you feel the energy from all of that.
I can personally hear a particular kind of growth in Matt's songwriting, especially in the last three or four tracks. He's going in such a beautiful direction and really putting a lot behind progressions, chord changes, and elements of the song that sort of take you by surprise.
As I mentioned before, to me, a lot of this is pulled from classic rock influence and just good songwriting technique. He's able to really keep you on your toes while giving you something familiar, welcoming, and intense at the same time.
This track comes with the music video that's also really good. The music video showcases some of his passion as an artist visually, and features some of the band he's performing with, giving off a great aesthetic that automatically matches the song.
The energy levels and overall visuals that you're getting through the video line up with the sentiment and tones of the music, so for me, this all worked out wonderfully.
You can tell a lot of thought went into the music video as well as the track.
If you are new to Matt's music, then dive in with this track. Like I said in the beginning, this is one of the best ones to start with, and then go backwards from here.
These last handful of singles have just been outstanding and do a better job of showcasing his growth as an artist and anything else.
Check this track out, and I'm sure that you will feel the impact that it's putting out there and probably receive that message well.
Remember where you heard this first.
