"I wrote “Tough Guy” about my relationship with my father. When I first wrote and recorded it, we weren’t in touch, which was deeply painful. The song became a way to heal and reach across that divide — giving voice to the longing and frustration of wanting connection but finding emotional walls instead.
As my father and I have begun to reconnect, I can see how the song helped mend that space — not just between us, but within me. In creating and sharing it, I’ve started to let go of my own “tough guy” defenses, which I built to avoid being hurt. “Tough Guy” reminds me that real strength lives in vulnerability, and that healing begins when we meet each other with tenderness and honesty instead of armor."
