A fresh single release from Know Angel takes some amazing elements of dream pop, synthwave, and more to create an atmosphere that comes through cinematic and vast so it's able to let you get engulfed in everything that's happening.
"Suffocation" certainly seems like the type of track that came from someplace real because it does have some emotional drive behind it and one of the things I love about this production is how it's able to sort of let you float alongside all the textures and soundscapes that are happening.
This is beautifully expansive and gives me bouts of nostalgia as the synth and key tones and textures really work amazingly aesthetically that this whole thing is really going for.
This is a vintage, neon-lit journey that takes you through what feels like a dreamscape and as it's happening, you're able to not only relate to the song itself, but memories of your own end up popping into your head at random and that's because of that aesthetic it bountifully delivers.
There are elements of new wave, electropop, and even a little shoegaze in there. It's all so beautifully layered and arranged that these genres seamlessly flow into each other as the song unfolds.
You have these expansive synth pads that float through the song's ether along with other notes that are more on the forefront but still drenched in that reverb effect so that everything still feels incredibly distanced.
This is all part of how it gets that cinematic feel and effect and with a track like this, it's really important to understand that the mix is completely imperative.
A lot of reviewers won't talk about the mix of a song, but I love to, especially in a case like this because it is so important to get the right mix so that the feel of the song comes across the way it needs to.
Imagine if all those sins and keys were just dry. The song wouldn't have anywhere near the same impactful effect that it does now.
Everything is so beautifully balanced dynamically throughout the song that it just feels natural and forward moving with a wondrous flow and a fantastical undertone.
The vocal approach has a classic almost post-punk or new wave feel to it which works perfectly with the track and its vibes.
The vocals have a weird way of complimenting the rest of the song and vice versa.
A classic '80s or early '90s film and this is one of the things that I love about it and one of the reasons that it gives me those little bouts of nostalgia I mentioned earlier.
The blending of old and new really works amazingly on this track and I feel like this has such a lush underbelly that it's almost orchestral.
You can tell that there was a lot of attention to detail during the creation of the song, but you can also tell that there is again, that natural flow of things happening as well.
No matter how much detail that went into this track, it always has this sort of personality and character all the way through to the end.
This in itself, may be one of the more important aspects of the entire track really.
This was gorgeous, graceful, charismatic, vintage, and very well woven to the point where it certainly made me pay a lot more attention to Know Angel.
Upon listening to this track, I took a little bit of a deep dive into the back catalog of the artist and I'm glad that I did because there are several other singles released previous to this and even one that's newer and they are also a little bit of a different side to who they are as an artist and how that all shows personality as well.
Take a deep dive into this one and you will see that this track in particular will end up swimming around in the air that surrounds you and that is a beautiful experience.
Remember where you heard it first.
